AZHUNTER05 Report post Posted November 15, 2016 I've been looking at some different setups and was curious to see what the average weight of a long range hunting rifle weighs. I'm wanting to buy a 6.5 creedmore, any suggestions on what to buy would be appreciated! If you wouldn't mind, share what gun you carry and it's weight. (Make and model as well plz) Thx
Douglas-gun-guy Report post Posted November 15, 2016 Well my 300 RUM weighs about #14 pounds with scope. My "lighter" long range rifle is right under #10 pounds with scope. And that's a 6.5-270AI.
metau Report post Posted November 15, 2016 Rem 700 LSS in 300 win mag. Right at 12.2 lbs with everything I've done to it. It's still in the process of becoming my long range rig, and it will be capable of doing what it needs to long before the nut behind the trigger is... lancetkenyon Report post Posted November 15, 2016 http://www.coueswhitetail.com/forums/topic/69698-what-does-your-rifle-weigh/?do=findComment&comment=691269 I have shot all of these (except the .22LR) to 1371 minimum on steel. I would not shoot all of them to 1000 on game however.
Big or Bust Report post Posted November 15, 2016 That's good - A Creedmore is nowhere near 1,000 yard hunting capable. Not enough horsepower... The better question for you is to start from the start. What are you capable of and what is your maximum range for hunting?
AZHUNTER05 Report post Posted November 16, 2016 How do you like the tikka? I have one in a 22-250 and I really like it. What are you capable of and what is your maximum range for hunting? With my current setup I will shoot out to 500 yards. I'm a archery hunter at heart, so I like to shoot 300 yards or less. However, I like shooting at long distance for fun.
AZHUNTER05 Report post Posted November 16, 2016 Thanks for the replies! I'm currently shooting a Remington 700 sps varmint in a .308 topped off with a vx3 and custom Kenton turrets. I also have a timney trigger in it. I shoot well with it, but I don't like the stock and I feel it's "barrel heavy", which makes shooting in the field tough without a solid rest. I'm just kicking around the idea of building something new.
