Coues'n Report post Posted November 12, 2016 Well 2016 was one for the books...literally. After rain and lightning all day Thursday and into Friday morning, we began to wonder if it was even going to safe to be on the top of a knob. As the sun began to creep over the horizon, we started to see the clouds clear slightly, so we made the decision to get up to the top. As we sat there sitting in the wind and rain for about an hour, my mom (yes you read that right) says she's got a buck. So we got the spotting scope on him and with it being first light and his position on the hillside, we could only make out that he was a very wide and solid three so I made the decision to take him. So we ranged him at 685 yards with a slight uphill incline, dialed the gun up and racked a round. As I was settling in for the shot, the buck began to walk forward (Being where he was, in about two more steps he would have been out of sight) but to my luck he stopped perfectly broadside. I took a breath, held just behind the front shoulder, and boom.. He fell like a sack of rocks. One shot 685 yards and he was dead before he hit the ground. He scored 111 5/8 with a greatest spread of 19 4/8.
