Arizona record bull

Recommended Posts

Jade,

P&Y measurers are discouraged from green scoring heads that will later be officially measured. Some people will do this and shop for the highest score for example or the hunter may be upset when the official comes in lower than the green score. It looks like a nice bull but every year there are several bull killed that people make a huge deal out of and try to get famous from by claiming they will beat the world record. Almost every time they are wrong and very often those bull are never officially entered. The secrecy already surrounding this bull smells like the same kind of thing. I'm not bashing you or the hunter but just pointing out what it looks like from an outside observer.

FWIW. when I look at the picture I don't see a net score over 400". It is hard to judge from a picture though.

Chris we will know the truth on the score after the 60 day dry period they contacted a guy that is going to do it for them. They got his name from someone on this site. I also see no secret behind anything said here. I posted the photos as soon as i gained the right to. Amanda asked we not show photos unless we had the right to by the hunters. I posted this thread the day after the bull was shot. And that is when they had acces to a computer to send me the photos. This is just a bunch of guys out hunting not a pro guided hunt. As far as putting a tape on him in camp. Who does not do it when they get the chance to put it on. I my self have not come across a measurer that would lie just to help put you in the books. I am sure there is one or two out there but i myself have not come across them. From what i understand a 378 bull fit inside this rack.

Lark you are right dude. I know you know the truth because you set up the pen for them. And as far as the outlaw stuff. I do not buy that. All you boy's off the mountain are outlaws.

If this turns into a mess like some of the coues deer threads in the past i would Ask that Amanda or one of the moderators remove the thread so we do not end up putting down the lucky hunter or his trophy.

i know these fellers quite well. in fact one of em was at one time an official tape stretcher for sci. if they come up with over 400, it's gonna be real close. they shoulda took one o' them get 10 feet behind it photos. that makes em look real big. the 2 stickers are long enough to cause it some net problems typical. sure has big #3's and nie eyeguards. healthy main beams. dang guys, good job. i wanna see a photo of steve with that big grin o' his. Lark.

Who cares what it scores, that's one heck of a nice bull whatever the outcome. Congrats to the hunter that earned the right to wrap a tag on that antler.

I hope when I finally close the deal on a bull of a lifetime (if I ever do), I do it like these guys did. A bunch of buddies having a great time without having to spend their kids college money to do it. Great job to those hunters, one thing though... don't get caught up in the trophy hoopla. Just be thankful you were blessed with a beautiful bull. Whatever the overall expirience scores is the only score that matters!

Hey Jade,

I hope you don't think I was suggesting anything shady. I have no reason to believe these guys are anything but perfectly honest.

My main reason for the post was to explain why P&Y measurers are not supposed to do green scores. I was not saying guys shouldn't try to score their own or get somebody else to, just not P&Y measurers. I was not saying you guys were score shopping either just that it happens. I'm not saying P&Y guys would lie either! Sometimes there is a judgement call especially when NT points are involved. One local P&Y measurer had a guy come to him once and he didn't like the way he said it should be scored so he went shopping until he found a measurer (in another state I think) that agreed with him and then had him do it. The bull ended up being a state record in the state it was killed (not AZ) and the guy sold the rack for a bunch of $. This happens more than you may think. It isn't the measurers lieing it is just sometimes there is a judgement that has to be made. That's why they have a panel of measurers score the top trophies before they are official. Again I'm just trying to explain why things are the way they are and why sometimes when people are secretive about stuff it doesn't look too good.

Great bull and who cares about the score! But don't make us by a magazine to hear the details.

Chris

i talked with one of the guys in these photos this morning. it is a for real 400 gross bull. he said it will net over 390. 60" main beams, 20" thirds, very heavy beams. all the stuff a bull has to have to go 400. i'm glad they turned it around so's that you can't see the back of the safeway. Lark.

Awesome bull what unit did he come from?

Could be wrong, but that almost looks like Kendrick in the background to the left of the left most hunter. Not sure about the angle, but it almost looks like 7W just north of Sitgreaves?

Or not.

I saw that bull it was living behind the Bashas in Eagar all summer long. I never thought he would net an inch over 391. Nice bull, I am glad someone got him, he was stomping around all over my grandparents garden and tearing up their apple trees something fierce! A real menace that one was! ;)

Nice Bull!!!

OK EVERYONE,

My name is Chase Clonts and I am the hunter who killed this bull. I was told of the talk on here by my brother in law so I thought I would comment and settle some arguements. I don't know who has been posting everything on here and trying to get tons of people to score it but I will find out. Chris here in the phoenix area is the only one that I know of who has been called and asked to green score it. I was not the one who made that call, but the call was made on my behalf. I completely understand his reasons for wanting to wait the 60 days and that is fine with me. I am not shopping for scores it is what it is.

I never thought he would beat the record, but I am just excited to maybe place in the top 20 or so. Man he is a beautiful bull and I am just thankful for what I got. I couldn't ask for anything better. It was an experience of a lifetime that I was able to share with some close friends and family.

Here is the deal... In camp the rack was scored twice by two different people Jerry scored it at 403 5/8 gross with a net of 387 3/4. My dad Steve scored it at 409 1/8 gross with a net of 394 1/4. Now neither of these guys are pro scorers, however both have been doing this for more years then I have been alive. I believe the final score will be somewhere within that range.

As far as the talk of a 378 bull fitting inside this rack. That is a bunch of BS. The rack has been in my posession since it was killed and no other rack has been set inside of it. Besides it only has a 38 1/4 spread.

No...lol it was not shot in a pin behind safeway... and No I will not tell anyone where he came from. Its not my honey to spill..

If you guys have any other comment or questions for me I will check back a little later to respond

Thanks to everyone for your congrats. I really apperciate it.

Chase
