Guest akaspecials Report post Posted October 27, 2016 I've heard conflicting stories regarding the legality of trail cameras in wilderness areas and I can't find any regulations specifying one way or the other. Are trail cameras legal in designated wilderness areas? Supporting documentation would be much appreciated. Thanks.
MULEPACKHUNTER Report post Posted October 27, 2016 I don't have paperwork but if you read the wilderness act and suggested leave no trace practices on fs web sites it's a no go. I was in contact with fs a while back and verbally they said no they are not allowed. I still find cameras but I talked to 2 different station leaders and got the same answer. I was also told by game and fish they would be confiscated if found.
Havasuhunter Report post Posted February 5, 2017 I basically just got death threats on another page for suggesting they are illegal in the wilderness and should be removed. It's too bad hunters can't have a civil discussion on this one. We'll be the leaders of our eviction from public land if we can't. Leave no trace seems pretty simple. I don't see why you couldn't use one close to where you are camping for a few days and pack it out when you leave though?
