Sor-Chancho Report post Posted October 26, 2016 Need a little Help!!! How do you figure out the best place to set a trail camera on a water hole? I have a handful of cameras out on a handful of water holes. Some cameras are placed perfectly to catch a lot of game that come in and other cameras don't even take a picture even though there is a lot of fresh sign at them. With that said a few of the water holes are rather large since the last the rain. They actually tripled in size and I had to re set the cameras about 30-40 yards back. I know there are some decent animals in the immediate vicinity as we have seen them in our optics. On a large water hole, what factors need to be considered when placing the camera in order to maximize seeing what is coming in to water? I have attached a few pics. ready2hunt Report post Posted October 26, 2016 what needs to be considered? The fact that if they are over water they will eventually be stolen. Not a matter if but when. I personally only use water to find where they are coming from. If you are seeing animals in the immediate area and there is water there....there WILL be a place where they bed nearby. That is the place I would be focusing on. As far as the water itself. Just take into consideration where the sun is rising and setting and place the cam north or south facing to avoid it and you'll be fine. The camera will only pick up what the radius allows it too.
