In the Market for a .243 or .270

Recommended Posts

I am looking to get a rifle for my son! This is his second year hunting and last year he shot a .243 but I think he can handle a 270 with a break on it! Please get in contact with me asap with pics and specs! Thanks guys!

Both my boys were on the small side at 10 and 11 years old and were able to handle the .270 without a break. Our .243 just sits in the cabinet.

Lol yea but I can have him wear plugs and still be able to use the .270 for elk. Now I know it's shot placement and all that but with as young as he is I would like the assurance of alittle more damage done when tracking! Would be devastating to lose an animal! It's will probably do the job I know but that's why I wanna see what's out there and keep my options open! Thanks for the comment thou! I have heard the savage long range trophy hunter is a tac driver! Any other thoughts out there? I appreciate all thoughts! This is why we are all out here right?

243 did just fine on our junior elk hunt a couple years back. But that gun will be equipped with a 6.5 cm barrel before long

I have a Weatherby Vanguard Youth in 243 if your interested. It is 2 years old and was a Desert Muledeer Foundation auction rifle. I used it on two hunts.

About 100 rounds down the barrel. I have a Zeiss Conquest 3x9 scope on it. $625

If you bigger and I don't think you should look at a 7mm-08. Soft recoil. Ballistics a bit less then 270
