300 WM small base die

Does anyone have a 300 WM small base die?

 

A 8MM Mag may would also work.

If an 8mm will work, will a 7STW work? I have a wet of .300WM Redding FL dies, but not SB.

Not sure on the stw. I would think the 30cal would hit before you can get all the way down to the base. I have a new gun I'm trying to use some once fired cases in and the base is a tiny bit to big. The bolt close easy but still touches maybe a thousand or two.

.300WM headspaces to the belt, not shoulder. But I still only bump .002". Where are you getting a sticky case contact? Even a small base din will oy get you close to the belt. An FL die should still work fine.

I want the bolt to drop on its own. It has just a bit of contact. When I use a Sharpe on the case I can see a little rub maybe at the belt. Bolt is all apart by the way. There is a special collect die made for this but don't want to by it.

Have you bumped the shoulder back .002"?

It's bumped back more than I need trying to get the base all the way.

If the case rubs now, I don't see it changing once it's fired. It will blow the case out to your chamber but if it's too big in one spot I don't imagine it will shrink after firing. If the bolt closes easily, then I don't see what more you could ask for. A bolt that falls on its own would tell me im sizing too small and would be working the brass more than necessary.

The case is blown out more from the last Chamber it got shot in. The bolt will fall at least have way with a 1 to 2 thousands bump in my other chambers. This is the only time I've messed with once fired in a custom chamber. The Chamber cut on this rifle is a MK248 MOD 1. It is obviously tighter than what this brass was shot in is my only guess now.

I know exactly what you are talking about. An old shooting partner bought a set of the dies a few years back because he couldn't chamber his old brass in a new 300. The dies he purchased were from Innovative Tech. They fixed the problem with one run through. I know that doesn't help you locate any. Good luck in your search.

 

Innovative Tech talks about belted mag brass becoming sticky or hard to chamber after full length resize in normal dies due to the belt preventing proper resize.

 

I use good lube with a Redding FL bushing die bumping the normal .002" and never had this issue. If your brass is already oversize I don't know of any other option besides the collet die.

Just to clarify, a "small base die" is a FL die that sizes cases to minimum specs, usually found to be better for the auto loader rifles and cases like AR15 .223 or AR10 .308. Not usually recommend for bolt acation.

That's correct. Never used one before. Just trying to get the brass back to virgin dimensions. It's .002 bigger just ahead of the belt that new brass. I'm not sure if a small base will get all the way to the belt but that's my thought.
