In 1980 I was in Italy for a NATO exercise, every Italian barracks had a M-60 machine gun placement in front of it, locked and loaded. The Red Brigade was active then and the Italians understood what terrisom was. When Ollie North was being grilled in front of God and country for the Iran- Contra deal, some Senator ask him about a security system that he just had installed in his house.
