mfernaz Report post Posted October 19, 2016 I just recently got a model 700 243. It has a 24" factory sps barrel, 9 1/8 twist, I've had lots of luck with the A max line and would possibly use the 105's with this rifle. Was just wanting to know what recipes have proven well for you guys. I have nosler and remington once fired brass. Powder and bullet recipes are welcome! Thanks. muledeerarea33? Report post Posted October 20, 2016 42 grains IMR 4350, 100 gr sierra spitzers, gives me .75 at 200. Opens up a lot at 500yards to 6" but still just over moa.
mfernaz Report post Posted October 20, 2016 I've solely used hornady bullets, how are the Spitzers in game? I like that SST recipe.
sherman Report post Posted October 20, 2016 It is not as fast as the hp but the deer will not know the difference. Only reason I consider the hp is the books bc is higher for them
mfernaz Report post Posted October 20, 2016 Yeah. I want to go highest b.c. posible, that's why I was considering the A-Max/bthp match, but have never shot an animal with a match bullet before.
sherman Report post Posted October 20, 2016 Keep us up to date some people use the a-max on animals but I can't do it. But I have never used hp on game either but I might this year
mfernaz Report post Posted October 20, 2016 Will do, once I use the rest of the ammo I have, I'll start. Was just wanting a heads up on what powder to start getting, but I know each rifle is different from another, so I have another session of load development coming! L Cazador Report post Posted October 20, 2016 Suggest you use the 95g Hornady SST instead of the 105g AMAX. I've used the 105g Amax out of my 8 twist on prairie dogs and if they expand on prairie dogs they're a bit fragile for deer sized game. Also the 95g will be more suitable for your 9 1/2 twist. I've used the Nosler partition with excellent results in the 243. The 243 is an excellent big game cartridge with the right bullet.
creed_az_88 Report post Posted October 20, 2016 41 grains of reloader 17 under Sierra pro hunters shoots fantastic in my Remington. Im considering trying the 90 grain accubonds. I would be afraid of hitting shoulder with some of the previous mentioned bullets.
firstcoueswas80 Report post Posted October 20, 2016 85 or 87 BTHP with 36.5 grains of Varget. Crazy accurate, 3000 fps average from my pre64.
PowellSixO Report post Posted October 20, 2016 Load is in my sig, and it's very accurate. I'm shooting a factory barrel and I can hold 4" groups at 500 hundred with it. I'm averaging 3091 fps with this load too, and the brass life has been pretty good. In this pic I have a 7mm Rem Mag (168gr Berger VLD), 243 Win (95gr Berger Classic), 243 Win (55gr Nosler), and 204 Ruger (32gr Nosler).
mfernaz Report post Posted October 20, 2016 PowellSix0, what pwdee are you using for your 243 berger classic?
PowellSixO Report post Posted October 20, 2016 PowellSix0, what pwdee are you using for your 243 berger classic? Hodgdons H4350. I tried Varget, H1000, and a few others and good old H4350 was the best.
