ctafoya Report post Posted October 18, 2016 Job in Fresno ended early so I headed north a few hours to my home town to visit some family. As I was leaving this guy caught my eye. He ran towards me so I couldn't help snapping a few shots of him. Hopefully this is a good sign for my 23 tag this Friday! He has a little bit of unicorn action going on. A few other pics are down at my old swimming hole. If it ends up State of Jefferson in my lifetime I'm coming home.

mattys281 Report post Posted October 18, 2016 Is he a blacktail? Most likely if it's a couple hours north of Fresno. Great deer country up there in Nor Cal. I have to get up there and tag a BT for my deer slam.
ctafoya Report post Posted October 19, 2016 Blacktail. Saw another 30 or so today.
BOWUNTR Report post Posted October 19, 2016 A couple hours north of Fresno puts you in the heart of California Mule deer country. You'd have to go northeast towards the coast to get into pure Columbia Blacktail deer country. I lived there for 50 years... Ed F

Ed F But how can you go to the north east and get to the coast in California? Its simple: california is so far left that even west is nolonger west, unless it feels like being west, but most of the time it feels like it was really meant to be east, even though it was born west. Does that clear it up?
