Wyoming Hunt Complete

Recommended Posts

Just returned from Wyoming hunting with my buddy, Kevin, who lives in Casper. It was a good trip. We had his cow elk tag to fill near Cody. We each had a general deer tag near Buffalo. He had a buck and doe antelope tag and I had a couple of antelope doe tags near Casper. We hunted all over the state and had less than 2 weeks to get it all done and get the meat processed before I returned to Arizona. I took a few photos, but as always, wish I would have taken more. It is easy to forget when you are wrapped up n the moment.

Here was my glassing set up which also worked well as a shooting platform when I shot my buck:

The first pic is where we watched my buck bed. We waited him out for hours before he got up to feed. The second pic is me and the buck. The Creedmoor did well. The buck took 2 steps and piled up, tumbling down the hill about 10 yards.

Kevin's buck. We packed his buck out 2.5 miles to the truck the day before I had to head back to Arizona. My buck wasn't so bad, had to pack mine out 1.5 miles in the dark on opening day.

We had limited time to hunt the antelope. We were leaving for Cody on a Thursday morning. We had to do some last minute work on Kevin's rifle and loads on Wednesday afternoon. We went out Wednesday late afternoon and dropped his buck and my 2 doe within 40 yards of each other. We were skinning, gutting and hauling the animals to the truck until 10:00 pm, got a little sleep, then took the antelope to the processor on our way out of town to Cody for Kevin's cow elk. Only pictures of the antelope are at the processor:

We were able to hunt Kevin's Elk with private property access on Carter Mountain near Cody. It was a really fun hunt. We glassed up a lot of really nice Bulls, but Kevin only had a cow tag. He settled on the 2 year old pictured below. He shot it right before dark. We got it quartered out after it was dark. The hair will stand up on the back of your neck a little bit when you think about the fact that you have an elk quarter in your pack, it is dark and you are in heavily populated grizzly country. There were 2 grizzly attacks already this season.

And the final pic is just showing the fruits of my labor....or in this case, the meats:
