I've been researching bullets that are not as sensitive to seating depth it looks like the Berger Classic Hunter may fit the bill as well as th Barnes 145 LRX. I've read some really good reviews on the LRX and how it performs on game. It has really good weight retention. The BC's are not all that great, but should do just fine at hunting distances. I think I am gonna give these and the Berger Classic Hunters a try.

Stomp442 has mention to me he does really well with bergers with good jumps off the lands. I wanted repeaters too, so I just started off the mag length. My 6.5-270 AI loves it right at PURE max mag length. My 300 win mag has a .050 jump and same with the creedmoor did lot better with jumps with the ELDs

Researching the Berger 175 elite hunter, it looks like those are also a hybrid design secant/tangent ogive and less sensitive to seating depth. Think I'll give these and the 145 LRX a shot

You have a 1 in 9 barrel don't you? Berger says the 175 elite hunter is OK in that twist. After you clear 168 gr in 7mm some bullets are recommended for 1 in 8.5 or 1 in 8. If you are looking at heavier bullets watch the twist rate recommendation so you don't end up with an unstable, under spun bullet.

The barrel is a 1:9 twist, so I should be ok with the 175 Berger Elite. Sportsman's had some Barnes 145 LRX in stock. I am gonna load some of these. They recommend loading .050 OTL. I measured CBTO with this bullet loaded to the lands at 2.268, which has a COAL of 2.892. If I load them to Mag length at 2.825 (reliable feeding with no damage to the tips) I will be at .067 OTL, which is pretty close to Barnes recommendation. This Barnes LRX is more of a tangent ogive, so I think seating depths won't be as sensitive as the ELDX was. I'll be giving up quite a bit in BC, but at my typical shooting range, it is not going to matter.

My findings in 7RM, 7 SAUM, and .280 Rem: Berger 180 HVLD, and a 180 Hybrid should all fly just fine from a 1:9" twist. This over several rifles.

I had a buddy shoot my personal 180 Hybrid load out of his 1:9.25" twist Sako 7RM this morning, and it shot lights out. Nothing tailored to his rifle, just very consistent hand loads, and his rifle shot factory loads from HSM, Hornsby and Nosler.

HSM 168HVLDs @ 4.5" 3 shot

Nosler Trophy grade 160 NAB @ 1" 3 shot

Hornsby Precision Hunter 162 ELD-X @ 1.25" 3 shot group

My 180 Hybrid load @ .5" 4 shot group, add 2 fliers as the barrel got got and 6 shots totalled .75".

In my .308 I was using 168 to 180 gr bullets. When I re-chamber to 7mm-08 AI my goal is to push the same weight bullets faster than the .308 and also have the better BC. I spent an afternoon picking through bullet manufactures twist rate recommendations and went with a 1 in 8.24 instead of a 1 in 9 based on what I found. My other rifle is a 1 in 9, I am sure to try some of the heavy bullets in it also. Your experience inspires some confidence there. I was working with a .243 many years ago and got caught in the "not enough twist to stabilize a heavy bullet" trap. It took me a while to figure it out and it is a lesson I have never forgot.

Lance, any thought on the accubond LR?

When I was working loads for my 6.5 Creedmoor and was having issues shooting the 129 ABLR, I seem to recall him telling me he has trouble with the ABLR's. That said, I later found the issue to be with one of the action screws being too long and rubbing on the bolt lug. By the time I figured out the issue I had already switched to the Berger 140 VLDH, so I stuck with that. I never went back and tried the 129 ABLR after I fixed the action screw issue. I think I may try to work up a load for them later and see how they work.

Right on!! Ya I'm looking to do the same with a creedmoor. I've got one that loves the 130 ar hybrids but I wanted to try the 129 ablr. I can't seem to find much in the web about how they work on game.

Everywhere and everything I've read about the ABLR people have a hard time with. This was including some of the people on this forum that had a hard time with. But I only remember one guy who spoke up and said he was having great results

I just picked up some Berger 150 gr Classic Hunters. These bullets are short compared to everything else I have tried, so it should allow me to use more of my case capacity while still being able to magazine feed. I have searched online for load data with these bullets, but no luck. My Berger reloading manual doesn't have any load data for the 150 gr out of the 7mm SAUM. Does anyone have a Berger reloading manual that wouldn't mind sharing min. and max. loads using H4831sc? Thanks in advance.
