300RUM Report post Posted June 5, 2017 Nice looking rifle. When I built my lightweight 7mm-08AI I used a 700. At the same time I built a lightweight 7m-08 on a Model 7 for my hunting partner. It was an educational experience working with both actions at the same time. Cell4soul Report post Posted June 5, 2017 Hopefully I will have some time to work up loads this weekend so I can hit the range this weekend. Things have been a little crazy at home. Still debating between the 162 and 150 ELDX. I have plenty of both. The 150's will give me a little more seating depth flexibility with the short Model 7 action and still allow the rounds to feed, but the 162's have the better BC's. 300RUM Report post Posted June 6, 2017 When I built the model 7 the selection of picatinny rails for it sucked. If you ever decide you want a rail and the model 7 rail selection still sucks a SA 700 rail can be adapted. 3 of the 4 holes will match the 7 action. The rear hole that does not match up needs to be drilled and counterbored in the rail and the rear of the rail needs to be shortened to the length of the 7 action. As I said, it was educational. I watched my buddy whack a cow elk last year shooting a .264 Win Mag with 130 grain bullets at 500 yards, so the 150's will be plenty of juice. 1 Share this post Link to post Share on other sites

That's what I had built last summer... 7lb rifle prior to scope and bipod, with manners t3 and 28" bull proof barrel, stiller action, Bla bla bla. Cell4soul Report post Posted June 25, 2017 I've been working on load development with the 150 and 162 ELD-X. I have several loads that are just under an inch, but I want better. I think my seating depth limitations are hurting my accuracy. I can't load any longer than 2.825 COL if I want to magazine feed. I don't have my numbers in front of me at the moment, but I know that is a good distance off the lands. I just picked up some 168 Berger VLDH and I am going to see if I can get them to shoot at magazine length. If I can't, I am just going to single feed this rifle so I can chase the lands. The rear of the action behind the ejection port is much shorter than a 700 and the bolt stop is completely different from a 700. With a Wyatt's box the additional length of the box goes toward the rear of the gun and the bolt stop has to be modified to let the bolt travel farther back so it can pick up rounds from the mag. Makes sense. If the Bergers won't shoot at Mag length, I will just single feed. One well placed shot should do the job anyways.
