Lightweight Build

Recommended Posts

Found a sale on 7mm SAUM Norma brass, so picked up another 100 pcs. I am going to stick with all Norma brass and will probably sell my Remington brass. I picked up my Redding die set, case holder and a lock-n-load modified case. I have just about everything together, now just waiting on the reamer. Tick tock, tick tock....

I already posted this on my PT&G post, but my reamer and go gauge arrived at my buddy's house today, so the chamber will be reamed soon. Last piece of the build will be the muzzle brake. I asked before but I'll ask again for final opinions, which muzzle brake on a Proof Research Sendero Light barrel?

I have the APA Gen II Little Bastard on my Sendero Lite 7RUM. Rifle with scope is 9 3/4lbs and recoil is extremely manageable.

I have the micro-basterd on a sporter barrel and it works fantastic. I really like the APA brakes. Another good option is muscle brakes.

I ordered the APA Little Bastard. I am heading up to Wyoming in early May for the grand opening of my buddy's lodge in Wapiti. I am hoping the rifle is done by then.

All action and barrel work is finished. I will pick the barreled action up this weekend and get the stock work done after I return to Arizona. My buddy sent me a couple of teaser pics:

I think I may order this HS Precision stock for the rifle. Stockey's has it in stock, so I wouldn't have to wait to have a stock built. It looks like it will only need to be opened up very little to fit Sendero Light contour barrel. The stock weighs about 32 oz, so it will still be a fairly light weight option.

I can say the HS Precision are decent stocks for the price. Much better quality than the newer B&C stocks. QC at B&C has really slipped over the years. The old B&C stocks used to be pretty good however.

The last couple HS Precision stocks I had were about 2lbs 6oz and they were listed as 2.0#.

My McMillan w. Edge fill is about 1lb 10oz, my Manners EH1 & EH2 are both about 1lb 8oz. My McMillan Game Scout w. standard fill is about 2lbs 8oz, and my Manners T2A is about 4lbs. IIRC.

Have you checked McMillan stock on available blanks that can be custom inlet to your specs in 4-6 weeks?

Lance- how do you feel Bell and Carlson has slipped up on their QC? I am in need of a new stock here shortly, and I really prefer the BC stock over HS, but if their is serious quality issues, I may reconsider. I had to bed my last BC, but I plan on bedding most guns anyway.

I want to try the new MagPul bolt action stock. Polymer with aluminum bedding. They had one at Sportsman's and it looked pretty solid and magpul sells bottom

Metal fot it too. they have short and long action and they make polymer 5 and 10 round mags for it.

Thanks for the info. I just checked out the link. I really like the Manners with the thumbhole. My buddy did free float my laminate thumbhole so he can test fire the rifle today. It has not been bedded yet. I am trying to stay on a budget because I still have some additional gear to replace this year and still need to pay for my Wyoming deer and antelope tags (I already drew WY cow elk). I may just bed the laminate stock and use it this year and then get the Manners stock that I really want after this season.

I have a B&C stock on my Savage Model 10 and other than the heavy weight, I like the stock.

Ive seen 3 B & C stocks where the barrel channel wasn't straight. 2 went back and 1 they said was within specs. The barrel would hit and bind at the forehand when sitting the barreled action in the stock. That is when I stopped messing with them.
