Zeke-BE Report post Posted October 14, 2016 I know there has been a couple of threads going on with scopes. But this is my dilemma on these 2. Budget will be 2,000-2300 max. I shooting a 6-24x50 pst viper. For me it shoots great and look clear but I do want a step up. I have never looked through the high end 3000-3500 dollars scopes yet so I know these 2 will have lot better glass from what im coming from. Choices are Stiener T5xi 34mm tube 5-25x56 MOA $2,000 ---vs--- Nightforce NXS 30mm tube 5.5-22x56 MOA $2,000 I did fine a Kahles on sale for $2,700 but it was in Mil, but everything else is 3k. If there is something else out there better then these two for only a couple hundred dollars more I would spend it. Also who has the better glass? And other side notes I want to shoot out to 1300 yards with this, but mainly hanging around 750-1000 yards.
Zeke-BE Report post Posted October 14, 2016 Also weight is a big one as well. I know the Vortex Razor gen11 is a gold brick!
Kingzero Report post Posted October 14, 2016 Is this just a target rifle or will you hunt with it? The Steiner is first focal plane and the NXS is second focal plane. Do you have a preference to which you would rather have? I would lean twords a FFP scope so you can use the reticle through the entire mag range. Have you looked a the Burris XTRII's? Target practicing for hunting. I'll probably throw 50-150 rounds through it each year. I have not looked at the burris xtriis
muledeerarea33? Report post Posted October 15, 2016 I've shot a 300 rum with the Night force beast and it was the clearest scope my eyes have seen. I prefer a fine duplex and this one had a lot going on but it didn't bother me shooting 1500 yards. Never looked thru your other option so I can't compare but the night force was really nice!! Heavy I'm sure.
GreyGhost85 Report post Posted October 15, 2016 ....the Nightforce Beast is also a $4300 scope. Pretty sure Lance has a few scopes inthe specified price range. He can probably provide better feedback than the rest of us.

Saguaro Report post Posted October 15, 2016 Zeke, That Steiner scope sounds good. I cant find it in MOA. Do they make that 5-25x56 in MOA? If so, please show me where to find it because I would like to put that on a 6.5 Creedmoor I'm having built.

Stallone A. Report post Posted October 16, 2016 Zeke-BE, I know you are asking for Steiner or NightForce however if you want a clear scope and in my opinion one of the best glass on the market for the money I would look into Valdada IOR. Not to many people know about them. I have it on both my rifles .308 and 300 RUM. You can look them up on SWFA.com . My cousin and I have been shooting with this scope for the last 7 years. I have looked through many high end scopes and I think the clarity of this scope is better than the two that you mentioned. Especially when you are shooting long range on a hot day. ( I am not saying the two scopes that were mentioned aren't great scopes but on a hot day in AZ you will see the difference). Just something else to consider. The only bad thing is that you really can't find these in the store. I would be happy to let you look through one of mine. Also go with the FFP I wish I did. Good Luck.
WampusCat Report post Posted October 17, 2016 Hands down the Nightforce over the Steiner. I put them on my rifles for a reason. Buddy owns the Steiner and it just doesn't compare optically. You will find Nightforce reliability/durability at the top of any chart. I have found the clarity impressive as well. Multiple times I have been able to observe deer on a distant ridge well after the naked eye can make out anything. In your price range you could have the 5-25 ATACR with the MOAR-T reticle in second focal with room to spare (highly recommended). FFP is not needed on a long range hunting rig in my opinion but that is for another thread
Redman Report post Posted October 17, 2016 Nightforce.... I looked at both also. However took a different turn. ended up getting Zeiss diavari (worked a trade for my SHV + cash)
Kingzero Report post Posted October 17, 2016 I would strongly suggest he stay away from IOR's. A Google search will prove that they have less than stellar reliability and terrible resale value because of it.
