tomgobbler Report post Posted October 7, 2016 anyone interested in some beef calves to finish out . I've got over a dozen calves..... and need to get rid of some..... they are still on there mothers on pasture, need to get them off of the mommas so mommas have time to recoup for this springs crop of babbies..... these are very nice calves NOT sale barn, runts, orphans or anything of the kind, these are raised by me, from my cows they get a vaccination shot when they are a few weeks old, other then that NO growth or hormone shots. all are from a great black angus bull who's mother was registered. about 3/4 are form black angus cows, the others are crosses from herford cows with my black angus bull. ALL are great calves, and all born this spring, mostly in march.... giver r take 3 weeks ..... they will be in the 550-600 pnd range for a few of the latter ones maybe a tad smaller and the earliest big steers maybe a tad over..... I do NOT have a scale.... take them and finish them the way you want on grass or corn/grain they are / will make excellent beef ...... $800 a piece..... come pick out the one you want.

wellhead Report post Posted October 7, 2016 I've bought meat from Tom before. Very good stuff and well worth the price. He's also a great guy to deal with.
AZHog Report post Posted October 8, 2016 Wish I had a place to finish one out. Don't think the HOA or the neighbors would appreciate a calf in the back yard.

muledeerarea33? Report post Posted October 8, 2016 Also, how much land do you usually run them on before slaughter? Do they do better with a partner (momma, goat, sheep, another calf)? I ask since I'm guessing you've raised them before and know how to do it. I don't but have the land, I think.

Your neighbor Bill gets super deals on grass by the ton. He normally raises a doggy every year in that pen next to his arena.

I didn't know this was an option. What's the cost for this wonderful service you are offering? wouldn't cost you anything but meat. You're looking at us boarding and feeding next 8-10 months. Butchering/processing next year is about a $1 per pound hanging weight. Get a heifer, better tasting and you won't need to castrate. I'll even throw in use of the livestock trailer. Got room to raise two. Go in on one with AZhog, he split a hog with us last year.If you're serious PM me your number again and we can talk. We have all the data on finishing calves and hogs on an excel file.
tomgobbler Report post Posted October 8, 2016 i'm located in taylor, and yes in my experience they do better with a companion, I have no idea if goat, sheep , hogs etc... are the same, but I know of about 10 different people here in town that buy them when they are little ( 200-300) and all of them them raise 2 together.... I don't know why... but they just seem to do better, ( not that you cant raise one on it's own ) as far as acreage, IF your are grain / corn finishing them then you don't want a very big place, you want a smaller pen, so they don't have to walk very far, and walk off what you are putting in them, you want them to have water, and all they can eat and not run around much.... if you are letting them grow by just pasture and not feeding them, then I really don't know how big a place you'de need, I have about 20 mother cows and a bull, but I have grass/alfalfa fields I rotate them through as well as state lease land.... but you want them on good grass and not eating weeds, sage brush, etc.... you want them on the best feed you can get them on to make them taste the best and gain the most... also they all have already been casturated, we do that when they are about a month old, there are NO bulls, just heifers and steers... I think I answered your questions... thanks
