Carrying a rifle during Youth Hunt

There are a bunch of laws azgfd put out there to be intentionally "grey" left to the wm to make the call. They definatly don't operate like a normal LEO.

They have to prove you are illegally hunting. What are they going to cite you for? I have carried my .270 many times on my daughters muzzle loader hunts and never been told anything about it over here. If they ask I just say what I have the rifle for, coyotes. Of course during our bow season, all big game is bow only. They still can't cite you for just having a rifle.

 

You really want to get them really upset tell them you are hunting wolves but haven't seen any yet. I use the 3rd definition (to search for; seek; endeavor to obtain or find (often followed by up or out).

I actually had a g&f officer ask me to carry a riffle during my then wife's deer hunt he said there was a high population of lion in the unit. That may have been for him to try and catch us "buddy hunting " but she was a good shot and doesn't need a backup. Yes you will be ok.

I'm the first on the tell you, and most others will tell you, any bad LEO should be hung out to dry, but keep wearing your tin hat.

I carry a rifle in the truck every day, why not in a buddy's hunt? There's always a hunt year around. If I'm glassing deer for someone and have a rifle, it doesn't mean in shooting what I glass. I just like carrying a gun.

I asked a similar question while buying a lion tag in person at the old AZGFD Greenway Ave office. I was specifically asking if it was a problem if I had the tag and a rifle on my brothers deer hunt. I was told that this is Arizona, I could carry a rifle whenever I wanted outdoors and I wouldn't even need a lion tag to do so on my brothers hunt. If I remember correctly the AZGFD person was was Tice Suplee and she went on to a discussion on how good lion meat was...

You can carry a handgun while in possession of a bow. Not a rifle.

now had you added - during a bowhunting season - maybe but here agin there are many hunts going on - if you are in the field during a bow hunt with a bow only tag - then perhaps this warden could interpet some violation

 

but it's noncence to say you can't carry a rifle and a bow while hunting

 

 

 

please find out which warden stated this information

 

 

now if the question as about the new law where they specifically stated that during the bow hunts down south where you are carring a pistol for personnel protection during an archery season then here if the question was asked about carring a rifle instead of a pistol - then the way its stated - no rifle

the question was asked if you could carry a rifle for bear during archery deer. I answered it. I don't know where the misinterpretation came about.

Taking kids on a hunt is one of my favorite activities, and I have done it for many years.

 

No legal issues about carrying your own rifle, but I strongly advise against it. I think the most important part of a youth hunt is making it all about the kid! I would rather pass a lion than pull attention away from a kid on 'their' hunt. You would be much better off buying the kid a lion tag than carrying your own gun.
