Backcountry vehicle recovery specialists in Prescott area?

Recommended Posts

My truck has a security feature called Pass Lock where a sensor in the ignition detects the presence of the key and sends a code to the truck's brain. At around 90k to 100k miles, it is typical for the resistor in the system to wear out and the defect causes the passlock feature to be engaged and prevents engine from firing.

Well, it happened to me and my truck is miles waaay out past the Yolo Ranch on 21A.

There is a 50/50 chance that the next time I try to start it, that it will fire right up. Typically, after some time, the computer disengages the pass lock feature and the sensor works correctly.

But if it doesn't?

This is a problem with the brain of the engine and not a simple mechanical fix.

So, my question is, Is there an outfit out of the Prescott area that specializes in retrieving vehicles from the backcountry?

My truck is an 09 Chevy Colorado. I do not know if they put this system in their full sized trucks, but it is a well known defect with the midsize Colorado and GMC Canyon.

003_zpszqzdaxun.jpgThanks for the link yo the off road recovery specialists.

I think I will look for somebody to pay to go up and try to start it once more and then if it wont start, I then call the the pro outfit. At $175 an hour, the cost can add up quicckly cuz it's at least 2.5 hours both ways.

Ya, I tried for 5 hours. Disconnected the battery for a while, let it sit for an hour, tried different key and all. I even had a new spare battery that I installed.

I was by myself and miles from my camp, so I decided at 4:30 that if I want to be back at my camp before dark, I need to start hump'n. I got back to my camp before dark and then yesterday morning I went down to the ranch hoping to hitch a ride, but there was zero traffic in 4 hours of waiting. I saw the mounted Cowboys head out at 6 am so I figured they'd be back around noon. They were and one of the young cowboys volunteered to give me a ride down to the Williamson Valley store for a 30 pack and gas money.

I may way off , but can you sign up for Onstar for a month and have them unlock and start your truck. Just reaching

That might work if there was cell service out there.

Cell or maybe they can use satellite.

My efim went out at Rogers Trough, that sucked. Then on a lonely mesa east of Kayenta the rear end went. It stayed there for weeks before I got a ride into Phoenix for a different axle. But hey, I learned how to weave rugs and make fry bread.
