Coues Sniper Report post Posted September 30, 2016 I have a 300 Norma from Western Precision with a PR barrel, and its very accurate. Balance of the rifle with carbon barrel is fantastic.
duckhunter175 Report post Posted October 5, 2016 I have a proof as well and have been extremely happy with it. I heard the same issue from a gunsmith about having issues with them indicating in on a lathe.... AFTER I had ordered. However, once it arrived there were no issues. lancetkenyon Report post Posted October 5, 2016 I am so torn. I can get a very slightly used 7mm bore Proof barrel in 7/08 that I could rechamber to my liking for $300 plus chambering costs. The shooter said it was a 1/2" barrel, but he usually got a flier, making his groups 1". And the owner is a shooter. He thought it might have been a reloading issue however. For those with a Proof barrel, honestly, what kinds of groups do you consistently get? Not just the best group you have ever shot, but consistent? I have gotten sub-.1" groups with a few of my rifles, but consistently get .2-.3 with them, so that is how I call them.
Redman Report post Posted October 5, 2016 By no means am I guy in the know about guns, but I just got a rig with a Proof Reaearch barrel. After reading this thread I asked the previous owner about the barrel. He was very aware of the company and said he's owned many PR barrels ... More than I thought is possible...from when they where another comapay all the way to Gen 2. He knew a lot about the company detailing the spendels used - what they had invested into the manufacturing, etc. He specially said the 7mm was a barrel PR made too small and is now making the .0002 larger. PR was replacing 7MM barrels for those that completed their warranty card...I maybe incorrect of the measurement but I know the difference was "2". Hope that help in your question on the 7mm barrel.
duckhunter175 Report post Posted October 6, 2016 I'll keep you updated. I won't be likely to shoot the 7RUM much this fall because of a busy hunt schedule here in KY, elk hunt in CO and then travels to TX and OK. I might take it to OK to stretch it out but it will be with the HSM factory ammo. Once I start getting some handloads tested hopefully we will see what it can do. No doubt it will shoot better than I.
