6.5 creedmoor powder choice

Recommended Posts

Long story short Ive been day dreaming about the creedmoor for a few years now. Im getting my .270 worked on this winter, and almost have a load set up for my 300 win mag. But Yesterday I bought a Weatherby Vanguard series 2, 6.5 creedmoor with a 24" barrel. Im also going to order a Bell and Carlson stock here tomorrow. I'm very excited for this rifle for the lighter recoil,(more shooting) instead of my hot load .270 and hot load 300 winmag

I picked up Bergers VLD 140 grains, Nosler Accubonds (not LRange) 140 grains, and ordered from Midway ELD-X 143 grains. Im excited for the Bergers, more so for the ELD-x, and maybe just try out the Accubonds. Accubonds are probably my favorite game bullet, and has performed well in my .270 and centered plate 750 yards, so Im still going to give them a shot, but the BC on them is .50 while the BC on the ELD-x and Bergers are in the .61- .62 range.

But for my powder question I have is that I have 3 pounds of w760, 1 pound of RE-15, and IMR 4895. Now the bergers book has a load for the 760 and the Nosler book has the Imr 4895, RL 15, and 760. I think ill get around to testing all of these powders because i think its fun trying to find load datas, but to start off with one right now which one do you guys favor more or have had better luck with???

1st choice = H4350; 2nd choice = RL-17

This.

But I know a couple guys who run H414 in theirs, which is pretty much identical to W760. I tried H414 in my 6.5 SLR at first too, before I could get my hands on H4350. It worked just fine.

If it works fine why Change?? Unless h 4350 worked better for the SLR?

My creedmoor gained 75 fps out of 20 inch barrel with superformance powder over h4350 that is hard to find. Superformance is out there everywhere and this gun shoots 1/2 Moa with it maybe even better. I love to shoot my 6.5 creedmoor. Easily the most accurate gun I have owned.

Because my groups shrunk from the .5s to the low .2s with H4350. Lower ES and SD too. But slightly better speeds with H414.

I might be able to get my hands on 3lbs of h4350 if you are interested

Sportsman has a lot powders but if they don't I'll hit you up

Hmm I was thinking 760 because I have lots of it but I rather try to hit a better grouping. That would be awesome if I can get .20 groupings

I'm using IMR 4451, because H4350 is very hard to come by.

I just ordered some online. How is your imr 4451 working out?

I have used H4350 and RL-17 with great success. I just recently got my order of ELD-X bullets and plan on loading them with the RL-17. I found my barrel likes the faster burning powder since it is only 20 inches. The longer barrels seem to really like the H4350 around 41.5-42.5, or 2750-2800 fps. David
