Looking to do some tubing or wading for trout white mountain area early October. Private or public water. Any advice would be greatly appreciated. Looking at Christmas tree lake. Good lake? I have floated Hawley lake and Early lake on the rez. both can produce some monsters. If you go to Hawley work your way up the center of the lake from the dam deep and you'll catch. Early lake- work the shoreline early morning/evening and you catch. Muddler minnow, wolly buggers are always my choice.

The one time I fished Hawley in the fall, the magic turned on when the water hit the high 50's. I caught the second biggest brown of my life on a cut deer hair mouse pattern I threw together after seeing a little mouse get sucked under. As mentioned before, muddler minnows produced also. Don't be afraid to fish pretty shallow in the late afternoons.

X-Diamond fish during my turkey hunt last year on my 1 wt.

Big fish for a 1 weight. What size leader?

I was using 5x leader and tippet

I love fishing with a 1wt. I caught this monster 10 years ago with my 1wt.
