452b264 Report post Posted September 18, 2016 Does anyone have the PROPER tools to remove an A2 front sight and dimple the barrel for a low profile gas block? If you can help out send me a PM. Thanks!
muledeerarea33? Report post Posted September 18, 2016 Save the money and just cut the "A" off the top and the mount off of the one you have.

Camofreak Report post Posted September 19, 2016 Dimples? It's not too difficult to install a gas block, I've done it on a couple.

cactusjack Report post Posted September 19, 2016 I know you already bought the gas block, but my argument for cutting the pinned down, is that it is still pinned. I have never seen one of them move and not be over the gas port. Noveske pins theirs for that reason. My 2 cents. If you still are sold on using the one you have, install it, mark the set screw hole by tightening it until it scratches a mark, them put it on a drill press and put a dimple in it. 4 cents..

The gas block will have to come off if he ever wants to change handguards. Might as well do it right the first time. There are jigs you can buy to dimple the barrel but im not sure if you will have the real estate for it since it was pinned. I have seen plenty of factory rifles that didn't have dimpled barrels and a bunch of clamp on blocks that hold their position. Just torque appropriately and use blue locktite. My slim free floating hand guard wont allow me to keep the A2 sight without cutting the bottom swivel and bayonet lug off, did you have to cut the bottom off your sight as well?
muledeerarea33? Report post Posted September 20, 2016 I've put float tubes on factory barrels with A2 blocks. Just cut the top and bottom as cactus jack said. I've built one or two AR's and if you have the gas block already then bolt it on, if you have the receipt then return it and cut the A2. If your putting a low pro on them I'm assuming your using a float tube? (Or just putting a scope on?) if doing a float tube you might as well rebarrel it and be done. Kingzero Report post Posted September 20, 2016 I've never had a rifle with an A2 sight, but I have removed a couple for friends. Just pound the pins out and it will come right off.
452b264 Report post Posted September 20, 2016 The barrel is new, a CHF FN, the same barrel they put on the M 249. I have a UTG SLIM 13 inch handgaurd, Back up iron sights and a small scope. Thanks for the input.
cactusjack Report post Posted September 20, 2016 The pins are tapered. Be sure you are pounding them out from thin side to the thicker side. Full disclosure. I've cut down and reinstalled 50+. I work part time at a gun shop
