Guest oneshot Report post Posted September 12, 2016 Trimming a desert spoon the other day, cut off a rattlers tail, then reached in to trim closer and touched the snake... baby pink rattler... It was cool that morning and the snake was inactive... way more inactive after a full body cutting... Ventanna Canyon is loaded with rattlers this year... Cell4soul Report post Posted September 12, 2016 I did about about 2 hours worth of research on turtle skins today. I think that will be my next purchase These are what I purchased. Really light weight and hardly know i am wearing them. I tend to sweat a little more on my calves due to reduced breath ability, but I will deal with that for peace of mind. I even wore mine on my post Thanksgiving hunt in 36B last year. 3 years ago we bumped into a rattler in late October up in Wyoming, so they can be out during the day even in colder months. You won't regret the Turtle Skins.

Kingzero Report post Posted September 14, 2016 I stepped 3" from one a couple weeks ago walking into a stand to call coyotes. It was about 5:20am and the sun was barley up. He was coiled up and didn't even move or make a sound.....surprised I didn't screech like a girl. I have been thinking about getting some snake boots or something since I often make it to the first stands before light.
Ringer Report post Posted September 14, 2016 I use .40 with bird shot in my H&K and no it doesn't feed at all. Easy deal to pull the slide back and get the second round in but it takes a little time. The first shot has killed every rattler I shot with it so it works.

I have been thinking about getting some snake boots or something since I often make it to the first stands before light. About 15 years ago I was asked by my BIL to come out to his place just a ways from Silly Mtn Rd to shoot some coyotes that had been perstering his Greman Shepard Dog and eating his food. So early one morning I went out and walked down a wash until I found a decent ambush spot to call from. I had a little fold up stool with me so I backed up inside a Palo Verde, unfolded the stool and while looking around I put the stool behind my back and set it down. I heard a muffled sound like a deep hiss from a housecat. I looked down and there was a pretty big diamondback. I'm a bit more careful now. LOL
