I-17 Labor Day

Recommended Posts

Sounds like a nightmare. 10 mile back up from Black Canyon City. Glad I'm not in it, be safe if you are.

We use to leave on every holiday weekend. Several years ago we said screw it. Tired of fighting the traffic. I'd rather head north on a non-holiday weekend.

Here's a pic of that back up from Channel 3 news. Screw that!

Last year I came home through payson from the white mountains. Big mistake! Coming off the rim and through Payson was a 3 hour ordeal. With 4 kids and a 4 month old baby crying, pulling a trailer trying to get gas. I try to forget

Living up here in the White Mountains, we've learned there are 2 extended weekends it's best just to stay home as much as possible - Labor Day and Memorial Day. We stock up before-hand and just stay off the roads as much as possible.

Lately this seems to be a weekly event somewhere along the 17. A fire, multi vehicle wreck, wreck with a death something closes it down.

Seems to be very little DPS patrols and far too many fools driving excessively fast. Someday it will be made safer. Until then good luck to all of us

I have been heading up to munds park since I was in diapers. The traffic almost every weekend is just horrible. To me it is a bunch of impatient butt holes and it's starting to get dangerous on the drive up and home.

It looks the same today. When I was coming home from camp the backup was down to Carefree Highway. Good thing traffic will be light when I go back up Wednesday!

PHOENIX (KPHO/KTVK) -

Some folks hitting the Arizona roads for a Labor Day weekend getaway found that it was slow-going on some highways.

On Friday, the Arizona Department of Transportation advised holiday weekend drivers to expect some delays on the Arizona roadways.

Many delays were blamed on a vehicle fire Friday afternoon that spread to some brush and forced the closure of Interstate 17 northbound in Black Canyon City. The traffic backup stretched for miles.

The interstate remained closed until approximately 5 p.m. But hours later, delays continued.

At 9 p.m Friday, ADOT said about 30 miles of heavy slowing remained from Anthem to Cordes Lakes on I-17. By 10:45 p.m., traffic was flowing once again.

ADOT also reported a 17-mile backup on SR 87 south of Payson as travelers headed to the high country.
