ctafoya Report post Posted September 2, 2016 So i figured out last night i dont have hot water. Went out to relight the pilot light with no luck. There is gas flowing, but its not lighting. 112coues Report post Posted September 2, 2016 Is lighting and not staying lit or not lighting at all? Does it have an electronic igniter or are you trying to light it with a match. If it's a sealed combustion unit with an electronic igniter, it's likely the igniter has gone bad (very common in newer units). Whatever you do do not break the seal on the combustion chamber if it factory sealed, it will make a safe unit very dangerous. 2 Share this post Link to post Share on other sites

112coues Report post Posted September 2, 2016 There could have been many different reasons as to why it went out in the first place.(faulty control, low pressure, air bubble) if it goes out again check another gas appliance like a range and make sure it's not the utility company. They should notify you if they interrupt service but on occasion they might accidentally send an air pocket and you could have been the lucky one to receive it. 112coues Report post Posted September 2, 2016 By the way that is a sealed combustion unit and whatever you do don't pull that door off with the window on it. After that seal has been broken it could release un-burnt fuel in the form of carbon monoxide into the house and can be deadly, and will also void the warranty. Eagle mountain ranch Report post Posted September 2, 2016 Your water heater looks identical too mine.No worries mine does this very intermittently and sometimes getting it to relight is a bit@h.This happens maybe at least once a year so no biggie at least in my case of mine. Snapshot Report post Posted September 3, 2016 Some friendly advice on gas water heaters; clean the burner area with a brush and shop vac once a year. Mine caught on fire from soot buildup. forepaw Report post Posted September 3, 2016 So if the pilot goes out, do you turn off the gas to that appliance until you can re-light it, or do you just leave it.
