GreyGhost85 Report post Posted August 30, 2016 I'm glad i wasn't the one that had to say it. driving roads and taking hail marys until you finally connect is not exactly the right way to go about hunting. probably should have left the first part of the story out.
Heat Report post Posted August 30, 2016 I agree 1000% with Ed F. I don't always use 100% Fair Chase rules myself but that right there is a bit much.
WampusCat Report post Posted August 31, 2016 Ahhh the old mobile ground blind routine. At the risk of encouraging your behavior... Congrats on your first bow kill. I think a lot of us are more happy that you didn't wound 5 deer on your way to that one. I commend your desire to be out there enjoying it, but as you grow as a hunter I hope a deeper respect for your quarry grows as well.
6ANut Report post Posted August 31, 2016 And ohthatguy, I wasn't talking about the bows, more how long the hunter has been bow hunting. I have been shooting my bow for about 5 years now and wouldn't even think about letting a 90 yard shot fly. I don't have confidence in that distance to make a Kill Shot and not wound or miss the animal. Tuff pill to swallow when he says he just got his bow in January and already taking questionable shots.
yotebuster Report post Posted August 31, 2016 "This was an awesome first archery hunt that I will never forget! I could have not been more ready and prepared thanks to my friend Jesse!!" You need a new mentor. That is all.
Ohthatguy Report post Posted August 31, 2016 Sweet buck congrats on your first archery kill, maybe some day I will know what that feels like. Edited: cause I really read your story. Man 90 yard shots ??????????? and you yourself couldn't tell the legal sex of the animal you were shooting at??? IMO you are being taught the wrong way. Some guys on here have been shooting their bow since you were in diapers and would never even think of taking an 80-90 yard shot. The bows being shot while he was in diapers are a far cry from what's out there now. Not going to kick the dead elephant in the room but if you can't shoot 80 yards, don't take an 80 yard shot.. Simple.. And I'll leave it at that.. Congrats on the buck. Well to 6ANut and Bowunter, I offer my apologies and have to agree with both of you 100% on this one. I didn't read the whole story and only saw the comments related to a longer shot. Like I said, "if you can't shoot 80 yards, don't take an 80 yard shot." He was taking shots that were not clear so he should NOT have taken the shots. I have just grown tired of people slamming anyone taking shots over 40 yards and was too quick to chime in here. The responses were not really about long shots as I read them now. I'll leave it there since I can't fit both my feet in my mouth. Lesson learned on my part.
