A few bugles here and there but they weren't interested in answering any calls or working. Saw a lot of cows and calves without any bulls with them. coueskiller Report post Posted September 10, 2007 I was in unit 9 on Saturday & Sunday. They were going pretty good where we were at. bohunr Report post Posted September 12, 2007 They just started in 4B last weekend. One area they bugeled till about 7:30 in the morning. It's just getting started and hopefully they are firing up this week even more! My son and I got drawn for 4B Archery Bull and it is his First Archery bull tag (and mine in 7 years) He sat some water at night and they staged up but didnt come in but were screaming to his cow calling so he's pumped and hopefully will hold out for a nice one and not get buck fever on the first bull he calls in. azhuntnut Report post Posted September 18, 2007 I was up around Flag this past weekend and didn't hear any bugles until Saturday night around midnight. I heard just a few the next morning, but the stopped when it was still dark. It was kind of weird walking around the woods and not hearing a single bugle. thunderbolt Report post Posted September 18, 2007 I was in 27 on the big lake turnoff heading towards eastfork this weekend camping with family (not hunting). We camped at eastfork and at night would head to a spot where i camped at when i did have a tag. Took my sister and her husband so they could here some bugling, well all we heard in a 45 minute sit was one bugle. I was disapointed cause this is something they wouldn't here for a long time cause they are city slickers. went two nights is a row and hardly heard any bugling. Ron G. Report post Posted September 18, 2007 Was up helping out a couple of buddies on their hunt this past weekend. Fri am they were bugling all morning, and even heard some throughout the day. Fri evening they were bugling pretty good too. Sat am they were screaming, and Sat evening was quiet until about 10 mins before dark, then they fired up pretty good. Sunday am they were really fired up and seemed to be rutting pretty good. Heard some fights while we were hanging out on the outskirts. I had to leave Sunday pm to come back home. It actually surprised me with how warm it was that they were so fired up. The general thought for the weekend was if they were cowed up they would scream back at you, but wouldn't leave the cows to come find you. Lone bulls came running in to the cow call... DesertBull Report post Posted September 18, 2007 Saw a beautiful bull Friday morning in 7W. Was up helping a friend. He already had 12+ cows. He bugled a few times, but was not in full frenzy mode. Heard a few in the mornings, well before light. Nothing in the evenings. It was very warm. Elk were headed for cover way before daylight all 3 mornings. They are hitting the water after dark too. It's pretty slow up there, but the weather is supposed to change. Hopefully it will get them going, he's been waiting on an elk tag for years. BTW, it is VERY dry up there. The dust is terrible. billrquimby Report post Posted September 18, 2007 I went out from the cabin Sunday evening to watch elk again. I had three small herds in view from one spot at sundown. Two were on the reservation side of the fence, the other was on the national forest. All three herds had very good bulls pushing cows around, and there were two satellite bulls running back and forth. One of them actually stole three cows from one of the herds as I watched. They were too far away to hear bugling but from what I saw that evening the rut definitely is on in Unit 1. I had been watching a super bull in that area for more than a month, but it was nowhere to be seen. Did any of you bowhunters kill a 400-plus bull near White Mountain Reservoir or Slade Ranch?
