stanley Report post Posted September 6, 2007 My son has an early rifle tag in NM this year. I think I'm going to make him wear a blindfold to even-up the odds..... On a serious note though, we can't wait for his hunt. Keep those bugling reports coming!!!! S.

shortpants Report post Posted September 8, 2007 I hate to be the one to give a negative report but my good friend and hunting partner just returned from unit 9 with a bad report. He heard a few bugles but nothing worth getting exited over. He said the bulls that were bugling were only doing so about once every 20-30 minutes. Our guess is they are still transitioning from their bachelor areas to their breeding grounds. Also there is water everywhere up there so they are more spread out this year than in most years. I'm takin' that as a good sign.....gotta be positive!.........I hate it when they start up too early and your just hopin' it lasts! I'll be up there this evening tyin' a couple 350+ bulls up to a tree (don't worry, I'll leave enough food and water for em' to last until Fri.) Best of luck to all you lucky elk hunters!!! COOSEFAN Report post Posted September 9, 2007 You wanna know what the true secret is? We actually hog-tie up a naked Shorty and throw em' out in the bushes............then you just sit back and let his squealin' bring them love crazed bulls right in! What is hard to watch though.......is when it's not a shooter bull that comes in.........and we don't shoot. Shorty really gets to squealin' then and gets some bad hoof marks on his back.....kinda sad, but he's a true sport and he's always willin' to take one for the team! Sorry Shorty.......I had to run with that one JIM>
shortpants Report post Posted September 9, 2007 To kill the big ones you have to be one with the animal, that's what makes a great hunter. I learned that from Grong.
