standman Report post Posted August 27, 2016 A few years ago in Unit 29 archery hunting there was a warden down there that kept checking everyone and saying that if you have a bow in your vehicle it must be put in a case and out of reach. If it was in plain sight then he considered you road hunting and would be cited. Another discussion with a warden at a taxidermist said that even glassing from a stopped, shut off and parked vehicle would be considered road hunting if an animal was spotted and then pursued. He said as the rule is written it could be interpreted many ways and that many wardens interpret it differently. Brian
Allforelk Report post Posted August 27, 2016 I've been in deep and sitting and been able to time the sounds of vehicles circling the area. At altitude with low humidity sound travels far. After a while you start betting yourself on make and model. When I was younger I went way too big the night before opening day on a cow hunt blowing off steam. I drove to my walk in spot at 8:30 and saw a small heard 50 yards off the road. They didn't spook, I made sure I was on the same side of the road as they were, and I filled the freezer.
CatfishKev Report post Posted August 27, 2016 That's crap, I pull off with my window mount and find something 3 ridges away and then pursue it? I'd tell the warden he's a moron then go pay the fine.

Brian I don't know how they over rule state law saying you can carry a loaded weapon on your person? Is there something special for that?
Snapshot Report post Posted August 27, 2016 Based on some Warden's interpretations of road hunting, many of us would be guilty on occasion. Simple nonsense for the most part. I've always considered road hunting ,as someone who drives around looking for game, and jumping out of the vehicle and shooting at it.

Edge Report post Posted August 27, 2016 If you are a hunter you are always looking for game. You may be glassing, walking or driving. Dont shoot from the road, across the road or from the vehicle and I think your safe. This is the law, end of story. Road is defined as a maintained two track or better.Nuff said, old subject matter. Besides there's football on, bye.
