whiteeye Report post Posted August 21, 2016 I was up on Pinal Mt. camping with some Boy Scouts yesterday and today and I could not beleive what I was seeing. If you are going to archery hunt (or do any type of hunting for that matter) your odd's might increase just slightly if you do following: 1. Get out of camp long before 8 AM! 2. Don't setup 10' off the main road 3. (This one amazed me) Don't road hunt......Really??? With a bow? We saw 3 separate vehicles each full of road hunters all decked out in camo stopped on the edge of the main road glassing. Good thing you were wearing that camo! I guess the good news is that there will be plenty of deer left for the rifle hunters in a few weeks. Unbelievable.
Northern Pintail Report post Posted August 21, 2016 Not sure why that surprises you.... I would bet 70% of tag holders in this state do everything you mentioned. Let them. It helps those that get off the road.

bonecollector Report post Posted August 21, 2016 Most people road hunt the pinals, it's like a freeway up there. As far as being setup up just off the roads you would be surprised what's that close to the main road.
BowNut Report post Posted August 21, 2016 Hunted there for years. There was a family that would travel 10 times a day up and back down. Pretty sure they killed a deer every year. Whatever works we are all hinting just some hunt different then others. If you have hunted there you know it's north and south. Strait up or down. Some peaple just can't hike like that. Or don't want to.

Flatlander Report post Posted August 21, 2016 So you are supposed to slow down when road hunting? Maybe that's what I have been doing wrong. Still trying to figure this out.
Edge Report post Posted August 21, 2016 , So you are supposed to slow down when road hunting? Maybe that's what I have been doing wrong. Still trying to figure this out.No, it sounds like you're doing it right. I've taken some real nice bucks with my truck regardless of 'seasons.' I don't know how you would get it done at less than 40mph. And don't forget the super glue, have had to piece back together an antler or two, even pulled one out of the grill once; embarrassing.
AZ8 Report post Posted August 21, 2016 Not just in the Pinals. Headed up north yesterday via SR87. Passed many road hunters from Clints Well and points north. All going about 15mph. A major state highway with traffic, and these boys are putt'n along in their SxS's, bows in hand, oblivious of the 10 car backup they're causing. Long stretches of double yellow lines. People were getting impatient. Recipe for disaster. To each his own, but please get off the highway.
