New way of hunting discovered!!!!

Recommended Posts

im not worked up i just think its funny when people act like they never road hunted. thats true they,ll always be there and yes glassing makes one heck of a difference. but not everybody has picked up this art. more roads need to be closed so hunters can learn how to be hunters hunting is an art thats something we need to teach are kids start them young and theyll learn the right way. areas with good deer population are usually those areas were there are least amount of roads thats why road hunters are usually unsuccesful thatas a very valid point thanks ernesto

Yes I agree and also I think Game and Fish should reinforce that law.

Several years back my brother and I spot a deer about 700 yards away,we got closer,I'll say about 250 to 300 yards,it was my turn to shoot since my brother already bagged his deer,I had a solid rest and just when I was pull the trigger a dodge truck came out of I dont know where bettwen my and the buck! Oh men I got really up set and believe me for a moment I was thinking to shoot the tires of that truck;the driver of the truck walk out and got a couple of beers from an icechest on the back of the truck and they drove away.

This make me very angry becuase is prohibited to drive out of the designated roads in this area an the closest road was about 3 miles away.

Luckuly we found the buck again 3 hours later, a well placed shot at 250 yards and the buck was mine.

I'm not worked up,I'm a happy camper ;) take care and God bless.

Did any of you guys know that the old world record coues deer of 116 typical inches, shot in NM in '97, was shot by a guy driving down the road? This is true. A good friend of mine, Dave Boland from Minnesota, measured the deer and this is what the hunter told him. The deer was on the side of the road and stood there so they got out and shot the SOB. Doesn't that suck to hear? Ticks me right off, actually it ticks me off cause it just couldn't have happened to a Coues crazy mofacky like me. I'll take some suck@ss luck like that any day but it really only happens to amateurs that don't expect it to happen.

thats my point josh if somebody sees a world class buck sitting on the side of the road what do you do yell at it let it get scared then go chase it me im gonna let one fly but theres a time and a place 6yrs ago i was hunting 23 near young and we ran across a real nice 3*3 mule about 100yards off the road upon further inspection it was a fake dear used by game and fish that was a nefty get up

I hope I didn't sound like I was promoting road hunting at all, cause I wasn't. I just thought the rest of you guys/gals would like to know that little tidbit to add to your arsenal and that it might frustrate some of you as it did me. I think it completely sucks that a world class deer like that got killed in such a way. I wanna hear some big stalking story or how he'd got pics of the buck on his trail cam etc, etc. Figures somebody driving down the road would be lucky enough to actually have this happen to them and not me.

Josh, no doubt!! Wasn't that the one shot on san carlos and they claimed it was for the meat and it was also taken out of the normal season.

Dan, The deer was killed in New Mexico not San Carlos, wasn't poached or any funny business as far as I know. I was just saying that it sucks that someone who's not a Coues nut like most of us here can't have something like having a world class deer stand off the side of the road to let one of us shoot at it, if that makes sense. I'm not familiar with the story you're referring to. Maybe this week I'll see a 120" buck standing off the road and I'll shoot it. I'll post pics soon as I get him.

Josh, just driving down a road scoutin right now would be ok with me seeing a nice buck and watchin the sun go down. Just came from the me from the gun show at the Fair grounds, man ever since 911 people think some of the shittiest old guns are worth hundreds of dollars. Some of the stuff is way overpriced let me tell you.

Last one in Jan I bought a nice .222 12 ga o/under and a TC could not find a decent barrel for the TC today for under 250.00,... well did get a lot of ammo cheap for practicing with though.

One guy had a nice coues rack on a table in the back of his display,.. he wouldn't say where he found it when I asked him.

Like the deer was still up there tied to a tree rubbin the velvet right now waiting for him to get drawn.

What a good one.

Figured you'd be out scouting for elk for next weeks hunt.

Have fun

Dan

Now let me ask you guys my fellow members a serious question:

If an individual is driving down the road and he sees a buck, stop, gets off the truck and killed;to you guys is that called hunting? Or what is hunting for you guys?

I think shooting a deer from the road is not fair chase! I personally judge the quality of my own hunts by A: the amount of fun I have had in all aspects of the hunt. I mean the planning, trying to get certain gear that I might need on the hunt, daydreaming! etc. B: The amount of work that I put into the hunt, Getting in shape for the hunt,Getting as far back in the backcountry as possible for me anyway, Did I guess right about a certain Canyon or ridge? How I handle situations that come up during the hunt , Rain, snow, cold, heat etc. I have found that the actual harvest of the animal is not that important to me anyway! the time spent in the field is absolutely everything to me. I mean if you saw all my unfilled Nonresident tags you would be shocked! I am telling you you could have a heck of a bondfire! A trophy is all in the eyes of the beholder! I think the hunts that mean the most to me are the ones that I have worked hard at or just enjoyed my hunting buddies or my family`s company. If I got lucky and harvested an animal than thats great, if I didn`t but I still had a good time than thats great too! I know hunting is different to everyone and thats what makes it so special!!!!

Good Luck this year Coues Addict

Don't get confuse here azcoueshuntr if I personally see a buck any size(does not has to be a 100 + inch) close to the road I'll stop and shot it,but let me make something clear, that I will not use my vehicle with the puspose to find a buck,so do not mix apples and oranges please.

My questions is ......or let me ask you the question in a different way, what is hunting for you? If you see me driving down the raod, stop getting off the truck and road and shoot a 138 inch non typical will you say I hunted him?

I agree with coues addict I personally plann my hunts as son I finish with that one I was,in addition to what coues addict is saying,I eat ,smell, think and dream "hunting" and while doing this have fun and enjoy it,I seldom see my brothers but this one of the occasion I get to see them sometimes including my father, boy and I try to live it and enoy it the most I can and etc.etc,etc,etc.

To my the great succes of the hunt is not if I harvest a buck or not but to see everybody including my self return home safely and happy. Who wants a broken leg or a tragick accident while hunting?

If the Lord wants to bless me with a buck great!! praise the Lord. He's the one letting me hunt so I have to do it right and enjoy it.

I know everybody has different opininons and I respect avery bodys opinions,I have learn a lot from my fellow members that is why I love this site so much,we are a family here and if my opinion is different than yours please dont hate me just hate or judge the opinion but not me,ok?

Thank you and God bless every body take care and leeettsss get ready to huuuntiiiing.

I'll take em where I can get em. Don't get me wrong, I'd rather glass the sucker up and get him the old fashioned way but if the deer is spotted from the road I'll take a lucky buck like that any day......I've paid my dues and spent the hours behind the binos necessary so I'll take a gimme like that if I had the chance. Especially at a deer that is well over 100".

Today out in the hills I saw 3 Coues bucks from the road at a salt lick but they were gone before I could turn the vehicle off. I took a good hike and saw a total of 4 others but they had always seen me before I did them. It was really nice to see that many bucks in a day.
