Trigger options for older Howa 1500

Recommended Posts

Hey guys, I'm in need of a little help. I've got an old Howa 1500 chambered in 243 win. I've had this rifle for 21 years. It was my first high power rifle, and I've killed a lot of deer with it. It's still my go to deer rifle. I've adjusted and adjusted the trigger on this, and I've got it set as good as the factory trigger is ever going to get. I'm wondering if there is an aftermarket trigger option out there for this rifle. It's the older 2 position trigger. I've found replacement triggers for the newer 3 position triggered Howas, but not for the older version. Does anyone know of any options? Thanks for your time.

Call Timney, they are in Phoenix.

I've been looking at the Timney trigger, but I've read a couple of reviews saying it won't work on my rifle. But I've also read some that say that it will work with minor modifications. I'll give them a call to see what they say. Thanks.

I put a timney in my Weatherby Vanguard gen 1. It is a Howa 1500 basically.

It works great.

I got a response back from timney, and they said trigger number 609 is the trigger for me. I'm placing my order today. Thanks for the help everyone.

Good to know. I have a Weatherby S2 and don't like the trigger.

If you don't like the trigger get a Timney ASAP. It really helped tighten up my groups and make everything more repeatable.

The gun with a good load was capable of MOA roughly. The trigger helped me get it Sub-MOA. I have shot under 4" groups at 500 yards and almost 1/2" groups at 100.

This is a an all stock gun beside the trigger, nothing fancy.

Weatherby Vanguard Series 1 in .257 Weatherby with leupold ring and a redfield Revolution 3x9 scope. Factory barrel, stock, etc. The only thing not stock is the loads and trigger. I do shoot it a lot though. I have probably 600-800 rounds through it currently.

I got the trigger in the mail yesterday guys. It fit the action perfectly and I was able to adjust it down to 1.5 lbs perfectly. In fact it would go a little lower to 1 lb, but I didn't feel comfortable there if I were to ever drop my rifle. So I bumped it back up to 1.5 lbs. It feels amazing. The only problem is in the stock. The front adjustment screw on the new trigger is going to have a slight clearance issue with the aluminum bedding block in my Hogue Full Aluminum Bed Block Stock. I'm going to have to remove a small amount of aluminum from it for a good fit. But It's not that big of a deal. I'll take some pictures and post them once I get it done. Thanks for the help everyone. This trigger is much better than the stock trigger that came with the rifle (even though the stock trigger is very nice).
