jr4asu Report post Posted August 7, 2016 So, I just purchased my first rifle. A model 70 .270 and now am wondering if my scope is way to big. Vortex Viper hs lr 4x16 50mm. I have the warmer medium height mounts. I don't know the mounted scope mount height. Should I have gone with a 4x12 40mm or something closer to this. I know... my preference but any advice would be helpful. Thanks

lancetkenyon Report post Posted August 8, 2016 Why go 4-12 when you get an extra 4x on top with the 4-16? My longest shot to date on game is with the 4-16 Viper HS. 1327 yards on a yote. In my opinion, a 4-16 is just about perfect for a hunting rig with shots from 50 out to 1000.
jr4asu Report post Posted August 8, 2016 Thanks everyone, I'm not sure why I started second guessing myself. Hey Lance do you still have your jeep? I ended up selling mine around 2yrs ago after it sat in the garage for about 4yrs. Kids+4wheeling = not a so happy wife Jake
