coueshunter Report post Posted August 27, 2007 Tell me what happened with everyone on this past opening weekend. My story goes as follows: Friday night I was able to get in 1 hour hunt with my son (I picked him up after school and we hauled butt up to our area). We were fortunate, a great buck came within 39 yards and bedded down, but we were blocked by tree limbs so we waited for him to come in but he got spooked by some loud noise coming from the direction of the road down the ridge so we didnt get the shot opportunity we hoped for but sure got to look over a nice buck (90 ish). Saturday we were blown off the mountain, the winds were at least 50mph. Sunday a.m. we had three bucks come in at ( 17 yards) and when my son moved to get his bow, he ticked the blind support braces and the noise spooked the deer but regardless, we had a great time and saw some nice deer. What happened with everyone else??......tell me some stories.......Allen Taylor.......
rugerman Report post Posted August 28, 2007 I was up in 17B and was on 2 bucks at dawn. Wind was perfect for a stalk, but they were a spike and a 2 point, so I didnt want to mess up my muzzy tag in Oct.

Coues 'n' Sheep Report post Posted August 28, 2007 My opening weekend was spent on pins and needles, waiting for Huntn' coues and Mrs HC to make a BBD call.... and that never happened .... But I got out and did a little glassing on Saturday morning and found a Bruiser Buck right in the same saddle that I saw one last year!! I can't wait till October!!! Good Luck Allen... sounds like it is just a matter of time for you two.....
shortpants Report post Posted August 28, 2007 Sat in my blind on water Fri. afternoon as it rained. Went on Sat. to find a road I've been looking for. Finally found it and glassed up 6 deer, 2 bucks. The bigger of the 2 was @ 80'' but I couldn't convince myself to go after him. Then I glassed up a big red bear which made the whole trip for me. Woke up Sun. to more rain so I stayed in my truck and waited it out. Finally got back in my blind, sat for a bit, then packed up and came home. Got eatin alive by mosquitoes but had fun. Rembrant Report post Posted August 29, 2007 You're the Man, effenjeff. That is a lot of time on stand! You and I should start our own club. We could call it, "The Brain-Dead of America Unite!" or, "Meditate 'r' Us" or, "The Power of Muse" or, "Patience is Virtue". Last weekend I wrote a song in my head. This weekend I'm gonna draw some pictures, because I'm sitting in a pop-up ground blind. Oh my! I hope you are not putting in all those hours in a tree stand!? Someday you and I are gonna kill trophy whitetail deer. Mike
bowsniper Report post Posted August 29, 2007 I sat in the tree 14 hours Friday. Saw one doe Saturday, I sat in the tree 6 hours. The wind was blowing so hard that I thought the tree would fall over, so I bailed out. Saw a spike. Sunday, things picked up late afternoon. I saw many does, and passed on two 70 to 80ish bucks. I was waiting for this guy: I finally saw him at about 150 yards. He slowly wondered over to about 25 yards. He was very suspicious. He was about ready to jump out of his skin, and I was about ready to jump out of my skin too. I thought that he might string jump, and I was so excited, I had my doubts that I could get a good shot on him, so I didn't draw. No way that I was going to lose this guy with a bad shot. He wondered off. That's ok, I know where he lives, and I"LL BE BACK! Mark

As it was I hiked all over Gods green Earth and saw tons of elk and does. . . nearly got killed by a lightning Storm atop Kendrick mountain (if anyone was there, they can attest,) more lightning than rain! I had lightning blasting all around my head for about an hour. . . started a small fire too. . . . wicked. But hey if God wanted to off me, he would have done so long time ago. I wasn't sceered a bit. Be back at those carp this weekend, good luck to all!
