I don't know but that is a very good question. I the only thing I can think of is some sort of drying period. They make you wait until the velvet srinks. something like 90 days the you can mesure it. But that is only half of it. I don't know the other half.

Thanks you guys for the response. Arizonagriz, I harvested one in 2000 that rough scored around 93 inches in full velvet. A good friend of mine rough scored it but he said that there would be a 5% deduction if the velvet was left on. Where can I get a verification on this matter???

The Bowhunting in Arizona record book used to deduct 5% but has since changed to 2 1/2%. Since I am a Bowhunting in Arizona committee member and measure for both record books hopefully this will enough verification on the matter. :)

Manamal,

yes I am, but my time is very limited. I coach 2 baseball teams that my older son plays on and it eats up my time. I have a younger one who also plays and I have to find time for him,(its only fair). My older one and my nephew were with me when I harvested the deer, they were both 11 and 12 yrs old at the time. It is etched in my memory forever. I have been out maybe 3 times in search of the coues deer but that is it . Hopefully I will get out on Sunday for a while. Good luck to you.

Arizona griz thanx for the info.
