WHALE Report post Posted August 2, 2016 I find it funny that people actually pay to be involved with the BBB and even funnier that people use that as a sign of a good contractor. They have called me about every other month for years asking me to pay so they can say what a good company I have. They have never seen my work or talked to a customer of mine and are just wanting money
muledeerarea33? Report post Posted August 2, 2016 Mule deer33 I bet the guys that didn't call you back is because you were building by yourself . Most contractors shy away from that as I would. Why cause we generally see your type as tight wads. Which most do it Yourselffers are . Nothing personall ,just saying the way it is.....................BOB! my money isn't a different shade of green, a contractor can spend it the same as I can. The subs also avoid most jobs that are labor only that the owner wants to supply materials so your stuck dealing with their screwed up material takeoffs and issues but get no markup out of it. Reading this thread really makes me appreciate not dealing with the public any more as a contractor and only dealing with large home builders .
5guyshunting Report post Posted August 3, 2016 I would rather deal with residential clients in my business. I'm always paid in full upon completion and usually cash. Most of the commercial work is 60-90 days anymore .

muledeerarea33? Report post Posted August 3, 2016 dang, I never knew it was like that. I figured a person building their own would only use the best of quality materials. I mean, it's only your home! Thanks for the inffo.

Thanks for the inffo. Never said anything about quality . It was referenced more to quantity of materials needed to do the job correctly. Used to see it all the time. Pretty much it boils down to the majority of homeowners don't have a clue what they are doing and in the end just complicate the job more than it really is trying to save a buck while costing the contractor time and margin
muledeerarea33? Report post Posted August 3, 2016 I understand that. I'm in an entirely different business that works the exact same way. I do auto and you all do houses (or commercial). If I have to hire a job out I either let them do it all, materials included or they tell me what I need to buy and how much. If I have to hire it out in the first place I have no business estimating what's needed, that's what I'm payin for. My problem had been the lack of willing to work. I never knew contractors practiced that way until this forum. When the housing market went to heck and I was building I thought people would jump on the chance for work but now I know why they didn't.
Snapshot Report post Posted August 4, 2016 I have a horror story related to a contractor(NY) who had the proper licence/insurance,etc and a local "friend' to boot... Contracted a home re-model for 16k, paid in full in cash before work was done... Crappy workmanship, 45days over 'promissed" end-date, final bill was 34k and a lien was placed on my home in 24hours... The complaint to ROC/BB was semi-satisfying, the real satisfaction is... He is still catching an azz-beating/lost work due to real friends in NY... Did you send Rocky and Guido over to break some bones?

We would have "Skinny Tony" invite them shark fishing and take them out about 30 miles.
