My Rights As An American Report post Posted July 31, 2016 When I used to work downtown, I would recycle our cans and bottles at a few places near work for about $1.25/pound for cans and about $.60/pound for bottles. The money would get split between my kids three ways. We would usually get around $75-90 each trip so each kid would get $25-30. They would then have to place almost all of it in savings for college and got to keep a bit for fun spending money. If they wanted to blow their spending money on a few cheap toys or save it up for a nice doll, train or other toy then that taught them not to spend the few dollars but to save. Great lessons all around about recycling, organization, savings and short term and long term planning and spending. Anyway, I live near BassPro and wonder if there is any place around me that people use for recycling cans and bottles that are reliable and near those prices. Any suggestions? Got a truckload that needs to go. I work in Queen Creek now and downtown Phoenix is no longer convenient. Want to keep the lesson going for the kids now that they are getting a bit older (9,8 and 5). Thanks everyone!

Thanks everyone! I sold my first load of plastic bottles a few weeks ago and highest price on plastic I could find was .45 at a place off country club and broadway. Forget the name though. Pretty ghetto place.
My Rights As An American Report post Posted July 31, 2016 Yah that is pretty close just a few miles. Very ghetto! Not too bad a price though. Any idea on can prices?
muledeerarea33? Report post Posted July 31, 2016 I had no idea plastic was a cash crop. I've been doing aluminum for years. Is it any plastic bottles or specific types?
Norteno Report post Posted July 31, 2016 I go to a place off Germann/Arizona Ave in Chandler. They have a sign for can prices in front. I'll drive by Monday and see what price is.
CatfishKev Report post Posted July 31, 2016 Last I heard prices were so low it wasn't worth keeping scrap from our jobs. Both places around sv closed down so now the closest place is up in Tucson. Poor tweakers got nowhere to go.
My Rights As An American Report post Posted July 31, 2016 Thanks. Yes up here the clear plastic bottles like water and some soda but not milk because those are not clear plastic usually. A full garbage bag seems to be about 6-8 pounds for plastic. About the same for cans if not crushed.
Red Sparky Report post Posted July 31, 2016 Prices are way down. .50 for aluminum up here and copper is down so low I have about 500 pounds at my house and growing.
bonecollector Report post Posted July 31, 2016 Price of all metals is down. We recycle quite a bit and don't get near what we used to get a couple yrs ago. The place on country club and Broadway are nice people. It's always interesting what rolls through there when I'm there. I think it's called Broadway recycling. The guy down the street American metals is a ripoff.
My Rights As An American Report post Posted July 31, 2016 Excellent info! Thanks. Wow 500 pounds of copper. Aren't you afraid they will strip search you through TSA when you turn it all in at once?

Takes a ton of plastic to make any weight and they only accept number 1 plastic. Which doesn't include milk jugs etc. Most bottles have the recycling symbol with a number inside it showing what grade of plastic it is.
