Woods Canyon Lake?

Recommended Posts

Heading up for the weekend and I know very little to nothing about fishing.

I am guessing that lake is for trout?

Any hints, suggestions as to how to set up the kids poles or type or bait?

Thanks

Trout ( Rainbow, Browns, and Now Tiger Trout ) some small mouth ... If from shore most will use power bait or night crawlers, but do not shy away from throwing rooster tails especially if you want a better chance at Tiger trout, browns , and Small mouth. If from boat trolling you can almost always limit with Crick Hoppers (Black w gold trim, Olive with Red or brown with Black)... Z rays and Super Dupers do well trolling as well.

Trout were going nuts on yellow powerbait on all the northern lakes last month for me.

Power bait and worms, light weights, maybe even a bobber. But Woods Canyon isnt very shore friendly for small kids, steep rocky banks. Black Canyon or Willow Springs have flat shoreline so kids can run about. All good choices but Woods Canyon gets crowded early in the day so get down there early.

Use lightweight line like 6# test.

One the bottom, a single power egg, #6 hook about 18" -36" above a splitshot. Any color, orange, white or green, just try until you see what they prefer that day. They will hit it on the way down a lot of times. Once the line sinks all the way reel in the slack and set the drag.

Bobber, either a small worm or mealworm about 18" to 48" and a #4 - #10 single hook. I don't use treble hooks because they swallow them too far.

For lures from shore I like Castmasters, Super Dupers, Rooster Tails and Mepps.

The kids had a great time thanks to all the great tips. You all made me look like I knew what I was doing.

Thanks for all of the awesome advice!

This high dollar pole seemed to get the most action. My boy absolutely loved every minute. My daughter did not want to leave.

We went there a few weeks ago and my kids caught sunfish for hours. They loved it.
