JasCald02 Report post Posted August 25, 2007 Does anyone know when deer antlers in velvet loose that "balled up" look on the ends? Does that appearance mean that the antlers are still growing? Is the antler bone rounded underneath the velvet at this stage? I guess these are loaded questions, but was always curious. Thanks!
Coues 'n' Sheep Report post Posted August 25, 2007 I am not a biologist JC, but I would say that it is related to the growth. Josh's buddy just shot his first coues (posted by Grong) and you can tell that buck had a bit of growing left to do, IMO. Yet other bucks already appear to be close to done with major growth. I glassed a big coues buck this morning and he not "balled" up at the ends and judging by the length of his points and beams , I am sure he is pretty close to done growing.... Again just my opinion.
