Snowflake to Canyon Lake??

Recommended Posts

Been years since I have been to Roosevelt Lake, back in the day when you could still camp on the edge of the lake!!! As I recall, there used to be a road that went from Roosevelt Lake to Apache and Canyon Lake down the Apache Trail, but I for some reason thought it was on the, you probably shouldn't use that road list???

Any advice on getting from Snowflake to Canyon Lake would be appreciated, my map app gives me three options and I would really like to go from Roosevelt down but is that really an option???

Thanks,

Jeff

That road still exists. It's the lesser known Apache Trail. It does connect to the east valley lands.

You want scenic and some off road ... or all well maintained and paved?

Either way you would want to go through Young ...Then Take the 609 across and around Picture Mountain, to Pumpkin Center then east on the 188 to the Apache trail Turn Just past the dang, Or Further south on Young road to Across Road all the way across to the 188 then again east to the turn ... Or Young Road to the 188 Junction and west on 188 to The Turn ... All the same roads are there Just a lot more Pavement and a lot less camping on available on the shorelines of the lakes.

Need good ground clearance and low flowing Tonto Creek on that leg, right?

I was up there last weekend and the creek is bone dry. Fishcreek hill can be a pain if you have a motorhome, it's pretty tight in some places.
