Outdoor Writer Report post Posted August 24, 2007 I have a pair of Alpen 12x50 binocs and a tripod adapter on their way to me for testing. If they work out, I'll keep them for tripod use and sell my Docter 15Xs. These sell for about $350 and could be an inexpensive alternative for those who can't afford the high-end glass. I might not be able to put them through an actual in-the-field test until Nov. when I go on a cull mule deer hunt in Colorado. Regardless, I'll file a full report here whenever. -TONY
kphunter Report post Posted August 24, 2007 I have a pair of Alpen 8x42's, and I think they're great glass for the money! KP
COUESAZ Report post Posted August 24, 2007 I have had a pair of 10x42s made by them for about 5 years. They were great glass. They are now my sons and work very good still. I would put them up against the best bushnels on the market. I know a few people on the site that got some and did not like them, But for me they seem fine. Outdoor Writer Report post Posted August 25, 2007 Thanks, guys. That's good to hear. Now I'm looking forward to trying them out. I have a set of 10X B&Ls for around-the-neck use, but the folks at Alpen have been wanting me to test some of their products for two years now. So I finally relented, deciding to try the higher power glasses for now. It's too bad they don't have 15s in the line. If the 12s are good, I might talk them into adding the 15s. -TONY
firstcoueswas80 Report post Posted August 25, 2007 Tony, I had them for a while and i liked them. 12x wasnt enough power for me, I like the quality! nothing compares to 15x though!
Outdoor Writer Report post Posted August 25, 2007 Tony, I had them for a while and i liked them. 12x wasnt enough power for me, I like the quality! nothing compares to 15x though! Yup. That's exactly why I would try to get them to put 15s in the line. But right now for as much hunting I'm getting to do, the 12s would be more than enough. They will work just fine to see the pigeons on the light pole acorss the street. -TONY
Outdoor Writer Report post Posted August 31, 2007 The Alpen 12Xs arrived yesterday. I haven't had much time to play with them other than to take them out front at twilight last night and look around the neighborhood. They seemed quite bright and clear, though. -TONY
