Tire requirements for ATV/UTV

Recommended Posts

What are the rules regarding tires for ATV's in AZ? If you have a road legal ATV and are driving city streets are the cop's going to check if you have a DOT stamp on your tires even though you are only going 35 MPH? My road driving will be mostly limited to short trips en route to the woods. Any insight appreciated.

My plan is to not buy some until I wear out the current ones. I just want to be informed when I go to purchase replacements. I don't think I am going to be on the road enough to get any hassles.

I have General Grabbers on mine which seem to last a lot longer and are DOT. My ranger is street legal and I drive it on local streets occasionally. I've never been stopped.

Pwrguy- give me a call. I work for a very large ATV/UTV/Motorcycle dealer here in the valley. DOT tires are in fact a requirement for the street and I have actually seen a checkpoint up at Mormon Lake where they were citing people that were non compliant with tires, kids helmets etc.

The Mongrels are a good tire. I run the Chicane on all of my personal units as the side wall is a little better.

Thanks for the responses. I actually just sold a set of the General Grabbers, and although they were great on the road I didn't care for them off road in the rocks. What I will be in search of are ones that are legal but truly an off-road tire. Sidewalls are probably one the most important factors to me as I have had to deal with that more than once. HNTNGUY I will give those Chicane's a look.

I'm resurrecting this old thread because I am now actively looking for tires for my Rhino. I currently have 26 inch tires on 14 inch rims and have been happy with the performance. My question is for you guy's with Rhino's. I would like to know if anyone is running 27 inch tires and if there are any issues with clearance? Apparently there are not a lot of choices with 14 inch rims and 26 inch tires.

Not a rhino but I went from stock 25s to 27s on my ranger and have zero issues with clearance and tried tweakin it every which way
