Red Rabbit Report post Posted August 25, 2007 When I think of "harvest," the implication to me is the gathering of a crop, ie how many bushels per acre. My 1973 pre-PC dictionary does not mention animals. OTOH, I don't care for "whack em and stack em" either. Doug~RR
dave Report post Posted August 25, 2007 Being a native of Tucson, I am curious if Mr. Quimby has the correct word to describe the newspaper we have here now that he use to write for back when they had an outdoor page? Our Game $ Fish Department has adopted and uses the word "harvest". I don't have a problem with the word, I just have a problem getting it done. For this reason, I have adopted a term for myself personally that I do not oppose nor am offended by. For me, it is the most articulate, definitive, non-abrasive, positive, PC term out there. "get er done". Maybe the new G$F regulations could include the "get er done" objectives for each unit. Animal rights people believe that animals should inherit the earth and humans should leave the planet. Hunters only assist the animals to their "new life" on their "new earth" where ever that is. Seems like we are doing the animal rights people a favor. I guess we could be called assistants in helping animals reach their goal. Thank you all for your input. This has been a really good thread. KGAINES Report post Posted August 25, 2007 The funny thing about this is when someone says " tell me what you think" they are really asking tell me some watered down version of what you think. There is good and bad with everything, liberals claim the freedom of speech to say what they feel, and we have the same freedom and we change words and use less graphic terms to appease them, but as rembrant stated in all reality we are not trying to appease them we are trying to keep the group that sits on the fence right where they are at. I love to argue, but arguing with a anti is going to be like speaking to a rock, then again if there are more than just the two of us I would try to make them look like an idiot if at all possible. The word harvest is fine, but everyone knows that to harvest the animal you must kill it. The way to look at it is to kill an animal humanely and use as much of the animal as possible you have harvested it, to kill an animal and let it go to waste you have simply killed it. From a lot of posts and what I read we critique ourselves much more than anyone else, I really hope we don't read more into this than what it is, in the end we will still be hunters and the anti's will still be anti's, we will still kill and harvest animals and they will still kill and harvest soy beans. Then they will sneak to Mcdonald's, if they're caught they act like an alcoholic that has fallen off the wagon, so they are hipocrits too. As you can tell I am debating this topic with myself, I hope I win.

dave Report post Posted August 25, 2007 Back to the stuff we have to deal with: I think it is entirely possible that hunters create more grief than the game they KILL has to endure. It is amazing that some of the finest people you ever want to meet “hunters” have such a hard time getting along. Maybe we should define hunters??? Whoooww. Kill is much easier. OBSERVATIONS AND COMPARISONS: 1. Who will get dirty and help you get your vehicle out when it is stuck? Who will steal your trail camera? 2. Who will drag your deer out for you when you are too tired to take another step? Who will tell everyone you are a pussy and shouldn’t be hunting? 3. Who will suck up to you when you give out your spots to them and then take the whole world there and proclaim themselves a guide? Just rambling about how we all help each other. I am not sure it is possible that hunters can have the cohesion or intellect to help their sport. They would rather fight and see who could kick someone’s glass. I am not sure if it is even possible to get these guys to agree on anything?
KGAINES Report post Posted August 25, 2007 Dave it does seems to be getting worse every year, but if someones stuck while I am hunting I always ask if they need help. I never know when it might be me. I am glad that I can see all aspects of what is going on with hunting now just so I can do my part to help, but the old saying that ignorance is bliss isn't too far off. dave Report post Posted August 25, 2007 Keith, I hope you don't mean that you are close to being done with trying to help? Look at ol Bill and Tony. I bet they have heard more spit than we will ever dream of but they are still at it. Making us argue with them all the time. Bless their hearts.

KGAINES Report post Posted August 25, 2007 This is what makes me mad about antis, hunters don't make people hunt, but antis want to make you stop. It affects them in no way, in fact we save the animals and keep healthy herds and populations, we do more habitat work than they ever thought of, and for that we are persecuted.
