Headed to Colorado want to fish the Platte

Recommended Posts

I will be staying in Manatou. Thinking of bringing some ultra-light tackle and looking for suggestions.

The Dream Stream from Spinney to 11-mile and Cheesman Canyon. 6' UL spinning rig with 1/8oz brown trout Kastmasters and yellow on black panther martins. Bring several of each. And be ready for a 30" fish, cause there are plenty in each of those stretches of the South Platte.

When you headed that way? Taking a fly rod?

...looking for suggestions.

Kidnap me and take me with you on your way through. That way, nobody at home or work can say "no". I promise no charges will be filed and we'll say it was just a big misunderstanding!

Park at 38*58'10.52"N, 105*34'54.33"W. Walk down stream or start at the bridge and fish your way upstream. Cast at 45* angle upstream and vary your reel speed. The bigger browns hold up in the undercuts un the bends next to the bank. Wear some thermals or ski socks under your waders 'cause that water is cold. Get there early so you get first crack at the fish for the day. Expect wind. Lots of wind. Lots and lots of cold, cold wind. And glaring sun. I'd recommend using a fluorocarbon line. Those are dang smart fish and I've never had much luck on mono. You may want a 7' rod to help with the wind, but your casts should not be too far.

Here is all you'll need for lures. And yes, bring extras. As you can see, I'm running low. ;)

+1 on brown trout kastmasters and take some gold super dupers along. I just spent 2 weeks in SW co lake fishing almost every day and slayed em on those two

If you need waders I have an old pair you can use. Traded my boots though. You could use cheap hiking shoes instead.
