Just a weasel. No pine martens in AZ. I see them a few times a year

I remember a topic coming up on these a while back. I'm not sure if I had asked in that thread or not, Do these run around in the southern units?

Last August/September was doing some scouting out in 36B for the upcoming deer hunt. On the way out on Arivaca highway, something that looked like this ran out in front of the truck. Dark coat, long body with short legs. Jumped into the tall grass on the roadside. Never seen anything like that down there so wasn't sure what it was.

i have always seen them at high elevations. i am by no means an expert, but i don't think they live in lower elevations? i don't think i've ever seen one under 7,000'. they are neat little animals. i see them when i am fishing in the white mountains more than anything. they turn solid white in the winter. really small. about like a longer chipmunk.

I always catch them playing in my canoe when i leave it on the shore at ashurst lake back in the day. They are actually really curious for how small they are. and they love to eat rainbow powerbait..haha

The weasel is very curious and fearless, they will take on prey three times there size., I have seen them kill squirrels. Small enough to slip through chicken wire and kill a chicken on the roost at night. Little turds raid my chicken coup in Alpine quite often. They start under the wing, eat the heart and breast till they get full

then leave.

The desert has ferrets. I've seen the banded variety at Lake Pleasant.

Once saw a large white weazle up at Robbers Roost Tank, probably 6000' there?

Pop Goes the Weasel... Goes the Weasel... Goes POP !

I have only seen them around the White Mountains but would guess they are a little more spread out than that.

Have seen Badgers ( in the weasel family ) in pretty much every elevation from the southern border to the Canyon !

I've seen pine squirrels give weasels a run for their money. I agree that weasels are little bad azzes, but a squirrel to weasle battle is no sure bet.

Oh'yea, common seeing them at cattle crossings for some reason.
