Snapshot Report post Posted August 27, 2016 I have packed into the Weminuche, from Vallecito, with an outfitter. It's a popular area with outfitters, and hunters with horses. Great country, but you will probably have to get in a ways to find the elk. Lot's of hard work for foot hunters in that area. The best hunt I had in CO, was a tresspass/drop camp hunt on private property below the Grand Mesa, as well as on top. Took a 5x5 bull, and missed an opportunity at a giant Mule deer. This area was predominately Aspen and oak brush. As others have mentioned, get into the thick and nasty stuff. That's were the animals hide from the hordes of OTC hunters. Most of the elk won't survive past 3-4 years old. With a few exceptions. Also hunted north of Dove creek around Glade mountain. It was a hunter zoo during that hunt.
