Transporting Taxidermy In the AZ Heat???

Recommended Posts

I'm heading up to Show Low this weekend with my family for some relaxation. While there I hope to pick up and bring my two Antelope mounts back with me from my taxidermist. My dilemma is that my wife, three kids and I pretty much fill up the cab of my Ford F150 crew cab. I have a bed cover over the bed, so while I am not concerned about the weather, i am concerned about the extreme AZ heat for the last hour of the drive as i get near and into the valley. I might be able to arrange the kids so that I have enough room in the cab. But if that doesn't work, I'm looking at a couple of other options. I won't risk damaging the mounts and will make another trip if necessary. Am I being overly paranoid about the heat?

Thoughts and ideas?

I thought about lining my jumbo 165 qt Igloo cooler with frozen water bottles in the bottom, covering them, and try to fit the mounts on top of them using styrofoam, blankets, pillows, etc. Problem with this is I am not sure if they will fit inside.

They will be fine for the quick transport.

Issues arise when you leave mounts in the heat for long periods of time.

I deliver mounts on the regular between Tucson and Phoenix in a big utility trailer on the regular and never have issues if it eases your mind.

Put the kids in the truck bed.

You see a lot of that up north, must be OK.
