Big Browns Report post Posted June 25, 2016 I'm trying to plan a New Zealand public land hunt. Just wondering if any members have planned or have any info on such a hunt.
Zeke-BE Report post Posted June 25, 2016 Boy you day dream and ponder this stuff just as much as me! I haven't heard of New Zealand public land hunting. Most people don't want to fly out and spend a lot of money just to DIY self hunts as big as trip to New Zealand. But let us know! Because if there is someone going to find a way for DIY hunt its big Browns!

Because if there is someone going to find a way for DIY hunt its big Browns! I've seen a bunch of YouTube public land hunting videos, including a few Solo Hunter episodes. I've read it's a great place for a DIY hunt, because there a practically no hunting laws and the season is open almost all year in some units. It sound awesome, but I'm sure there are a lot of other challenges. Thanks for the confidence!!!
HuntHarder Report post Posted June 25, 2016 Get a hold of Kevin Presmyk. Guy goes there every year and hammers tons of critters. I forget his name on this site.

Coues 'n' Sheep Report post Posted June 25, 2016 Honestly the free range stuff looks pretty cool in NZ... and Very do-able. But I just couldn't justify the cost of that trip and shoot a stag of that caliber.... I mean a Giant is 300" on pubic land... it would be a blast to do that hunt with some buddies I think, if you are after more than stags and have a couple weeks to hunt. Good hunting, NZ is a place you will never forget!! Cheers!
Rharris Report post Posted June 25, 2016 I have been there twice and hunted public land both times. I have a friend that lives there and another in Australia so we meet up and take on the NZ mtns. I hate to burst everyone's bubble but there are no Big stags on public land. Every NZ red stag hunt you see on tv is high fenced. The NZ govt does not want red deer on public land. They lease "lots" to aerial shooters to keep the #'s down. They know its near impossible to erradicate them do to the terrain and flora. If the NZ govt had it their way they would eradicate them all since none of them are native. The only thing native their are birds. That being said Tahr and Chamois are very doable public land hunts if you do your homework.
