Buckhunter Report post Posted August 18, 2007 What do you think is a safe distance from a small water source? I have 5 different bucks hitting this little puddle of water.
bowhuntinmaniac Report post Posted August 18, 2007 Depends on how easy it is to brush in.......if you put it up the day before the hunt, you better brush it in real well......especially the top. I would say a minimum of 25 yards and not near a trail.

Coues 'n' Sheep Report post Posted August 19, 2007 Bucks can be really skiddish around water.... I agree with about 25-30 yds.... any more than that and you might have one jump the string.... I've seen it happen.
firstcoueswas80 Report post Posted August 19, 2007 I was thinking about 30 yards also but ya gotta pattern the wind and only sit that stand when it is like is supposed to be... in ur face and the opposite way of the direction that the bucks come in.
coocoo4coues Report post Posted August 21, 2007 I've been debating whether to try a blind. Do you guys have any recommendations (brands, sizes, types, etc) for hunting blinds?
bustedknuckleinc Report post Posted August 21, 2007 Around this time of year they can be saunas if in the desert. You need lots of water and a pee bottle to sit all day.
TLH Report post Posted August 21, 2007 All i can tell ya is, no matter how far away you put it you better wait until they have their nose buried in the water before you draw to shoot--any little sound or movement before or after that will send them hauling the proverbial butt away from you. When they are slurping they can't hear as well.
runningbird Report post Posted August 21, 2007 also remember they almost always put thier nose down 2 or three times before really drinking. don't move till they are really slurrping. good luck
