Sam Report post Posted June 19, 2016 My daughter was gifted an antelope tag by her grandfather (he had 16 pts and she had 10 pts). I have 23! She needs to practice this summer. Practicing with the Managed Recoil rounds is much easier on her 100 pound frame. Anyone have any Remington Managed Recoil in a .270 that they would like to part with. I have 8 rounds left and have been looking for a while and can not find anyone selling them. Thanks! She will be using 130 grain hand loads for the hunt. forepaw Report post Posted June 19, 2016 Howdy Sam, I haven't seen any MR ammo for a long time, but I can recommend a reduced load that might fill your need, assuming you handload, or have a friend who can cobble some together. This would be 24 gr. of SR 4759 with your choice of 130 gr. bullet. This is a very accurate and consistent reduced load. Velocity is 2170 fps. I have used both R-P and Nosler brass, with W-W primers. Mostly, I have used Sierra bullets, both flat-base and boattail. Possibly a Sierra GK or Nosler BT would expand reliably at this velocity. I have practiced with this load to 335 yds. and it is quiet, mild, and accurate. Hope that helps. forepaw
1uglydude Report post Posted June 19, 2016 If you handload (or have someone who does it for you) then you would probably be better off loading some for yourself. Take a 90 or 100 grain bullet (don't overlook the bullets made for the 6.8spc) and use a 60% charge of H4895. Or, if you can getc your hands on some traiL boss you can just fill the case between 70-100% of capacity.
Sam Report post Posted June 19, 2016 Thanks you guys - I wish I got into reloading. I just haven't put in the time to get proficient or comfortable with reloading rifle rounds. A friend of mine gave me the hand loads for her deer hunt last year. I have about 40 of them left. So, reloading my own isn't an option. Maybe I can find someone to work some up some rounds based on your suggestions. But, everyone seems so busy these days, I am hoping just to buy a box or two of the Managed Recoil. I appreciate the suggestions.
Big Browns Report post Posted June 19, 2016 You can let her use my 260 AR. It has absolutely no recoil. Great Antelope gun!!!!
PRDATR Report post Posted June 19, 2016 I haven't reloaded in quite a few years but I'm sure I have powder and primers I could donate if someone wants to work up a load for her. Just a thought.

Guest 300ultramag. Report post Posted June 20, 2016 I have said this before only because it works. Set them up shooting .223 let them shoot a lot and develop there technique. Opening day give them the .270 Case closed. I did this with my wife who was maybe 100 .lbs at the time. she practiced with my ar 15 for months and on opening day I pulled out her .270 that she had never shot. And asked do you want to carry a heavy black gun or your t3 lite. She chose the 270 one shot one kill light out. She said the recoil was the same as the ar! Hahaha I shoewd her the casings together and she still thinks they have the same kick. Just watch her eye relief. If she gets kissed one time by the .270 she will be ruined and hate you for eternity
tomgobbler Report post Posted June 20, 2016 I've got a youth model 243, nice short stock, fits kids great, your welcome to borrow it for her hunt.
Sam Report post Posted June 20, 2016 Thanks for all the offers to help her out and for the offers to let her borrow a rifle. That is what is so great about this site - guys helping each other out! I guess since she started out with this gun when she was 10 and she really doesn't shoot a ton, I thought is would be best for her to get as comfortable as possible with it. Most of us can pick up any rifle and shoot pretty well with it, but I think it is a little harder for someone who doesn't have a lot of experience. I may try the Hornaday reduced recoil. The Remington Managed recoil shoots almost identical to the 130 grain we use when hunting, so it made her feel good seeing the shots. Tomgobbler - thanks for the offer on the 243. My nephew has a youth model 243 and I thought letting her use this. But, I put a youth stock on the 270 BDL and the fit is good, it is just the practicing........ I agree on the eye relief, I always remind her about that.

Shoot .223 out to 900 or 6.5 SLR/.260 for really stretching it out for LR practice. Save the 7RM, .300RUM, etc. for the actual hunts. Taylor has taken 1 shot w. my .300RUM, and doesn't remember the recoil of a full hunting load. The way I want it.

The brake on her rifle helped even more. When I worked up hand loads using 140 gr Barnes TTSX, she couldn't tell the difference when it was go time. Like Lance said, too, though, I have my kids shoot my AR in .223 and even practice simple form with a .22 LR. Come hunting time, my daughter always says "What recoil?" when I ask her how her rifle kicked with her hunting loads.
